Hello freelanders!

Quick question, the other halfs freelancer failed its MOT on the bottom arm, just finished that..

And also due to the drivers side, side repeater being on all the time, solid not flashing.

I have check all the other bulbs and all are working,

Any ideas on why this could be happening? It only comes on once the key is in the ignition.

Thanks,

Remove the indicator relay and see if it goes out, contacts might be shorting just enough to power the low watt bulb.

That's an interesting one. The indicators on each side are all joined together. So if one is on light is on, on that side, all should be on. The flasher unit is before the indicator stalk. So effectively the stalk is powered all the time via the flasher relay, the stalk sending power to either side at a time, depending on its position. It's actually, theoretically impossible for just one indicator to be on, as all +12 volt feeds to one side all are electrically joined together. They are grounded locally so if the repeater was provided with +12 on its ground wire, it would light, as the ground path would be through the other three bulbs on the circuit. However it's pretty unlikely that the ground is as +12v. It's a strange fault that presumably has been created by someone messing with the wiring.

Removed the indicator relay, indicators stopped working, light stayed on!

When the car is locked the repeater flashes quite dim compare to when indicating

I noticed the problem about 4 months again after a load of heavy rain, not sure if it's connected or not, unless it's always been like it and I only happened to notice then.

I need to have a look tomorrow at the wiring and see if I can see and damage / past "modifications", and check the ground on it,

Looking at the wiring diagram, check the hazard switch or relay. The side repeaters have a separate connection to that in addition to the stalk switch. There may be some back feeding going on.

Turns out it was caused by a bad earth, also turns out you have to take the dash out to get to the back of the side repeaters where they enter the cab.
