I have seen that some landrovers are fitted with side lockers - obviously custom fitted. There is oodles of space underneath on my 3 door 110 between the front door bottoms and rear wheels and I think that I would find one or a pair of them really useful.

Has anyone ever investigated getting some made/fitted - if so where?

I am not a bodywork person myself so probably could not fabricate the box itself but I could probably fit one. I would be interested in any options.

I want to fit side lockers as well. Need the storage space. If you look at www.frogsisland4x4.com under vehicle storage, they do side lockers. No prices on the web site. The other way of doing it is to use the military side lockers, there are two different kinds, the Wolfs have a different locker than the older defenders.

I fitted the early Military 110 Jerry Can Lockers to my 110, using new military parts.

You can download an extract from the Military Defender 110 Supplementary Parts Catalogue here -

This shows the early jerry can lockers and the later enclosed jerry can/tool lockers.

Thanks again Paul.

Where could I obtain these - does it need to be a military supplier or do you think that a normal Landrover specialist help?

Can you remember what sort of cost your parts were and how difficult it was to complete the job.

I bought my bits from the main dealer I bought my 110 from. They could order up any parts, including military parts, if they had the part no. - but, they didn't have any military parts books or microfiche back then. I was in REME at the time and had aquired the Land Rover Military Supplementary Parts Books (that I've now scanned and made available on my webspace) so identifying the part no's wasn't a problem.

The most expensive bits were the galavanised locker floors (items #11), all in all I think that all the bits came to around £400 (in 1990).

You only need Qty x 1 of item #7 - Crossmember

You don't need items #8 - Sill Panel LH & RH - you can cut your existing sill panels.

Fitting the parts was relatively easy, just a nut-bolt and rivet job - once I'd overcome the fear of cutting large holes in the sides of my new 110

Needless to say, the old adage 'measure twice - cut once' came into play and I measured and re-measured numerous times before taking the jigsaw to the side of my Land Rover.

John Craddock & PA Blanchard both sell new ex-military parts, and both have some of the parts listed. There are plenty of people breaking 1986/87 vintage ex-military 110's (including Craddock & Blanchard), you might be able to get some reasonable condition used parts from them.
