Side Exit Exhaust - Again

Have read a few posts on side exit exhausts, please excuse starting another but did'nt want to resurect an old thread.

Some interesting approaches posted, most appear to involve chopping and wielding, which I do not have the facilities to do.

So I though, why not just hack the end off the exhaust, just after the middle box, buy a meter or flexi pipe, as link below, clamp one end to old pipe, clamp other end to new bit of SS end pipe, hole in side panel, and jobs a goodun (allowing for a couple of clamps/ties as neccessary to stop rattles and a finisher ring for the body pannel).

Why go to the hastle of wielding a bendy link of solid pipe if they sell this stuff?? Is it ****e? or short lived?

Yes - agree with you. No idea how long flexi pipe would last, but cost and ease to replace still makes sense

I read this when it was first posted……..well I say read I glanced but I'm light headed at the moment thanks to Mr Macallan

I'll be having a side exit put on soon but I'm using tratter stacks and a 2 way splitter so I can have twin exits, still cheap and tratter stacks are really cheap, cost me £10 each for black ones

Is it for your 300 CSW?

If so, unless you get inventive(like you suggested) then you just buy a kit.

Cheers BGB, yep, for the 300 CSW. I've seen that link before, but can't find a price, or anyone that has used it.

they also do these kits to fit 200tdi and td5 90's as well as the 300tdi version listed.
think they wanted over £200 for a kit !

My flexi pipe lasted 3 years before it rusted through.
Replaced it last year.

You can buy tratter exhausts from agri shops and they work great, they were meant to be on my V8 as truck stacks but laid flat they turn into side exits so I'm putting a splitter off the main pipe and having two side exits on the disco.

Should hopefully make it sound better and breathe easier

find a custom exhaust specialist and tell them what you want. I have a full custom stainless side exit for £250 with lifetime garentee.

Yeh Cheers Trewey, saw that one. I'm thinking, without the small silencer you could reduce the parts list to a piece of flexi pipe and the small exit pipe for going through the body panel, plus something like the D44 ring, but not at an FU price.

Or, do without that wee bit of pipe bit too if your body panel ouside ring has a short inner flange to stick the flexi pipe over (soz, badly described).

Sounds good but my SS system is only about a year and a half old and I aint got that sort of money. But, if you got a full system for £250, I guess you should be able to get about three foot of single bent tube, for maybe £50??

A new exhaust is on my list of things to do, and rapidly rising up it...

Is there any advantage of a side exit exhaust? Or is it just that they look pretty?

The first thing to hit the ground will be your chassis, not your exhaust.
