I'm right in thinking I need new front brake discs because when I break at any speed over 10mph
the steering wheel shudders. It doesn't shudder when driving at any speed, just when I break.

It can be rotors warped, rust behind rotors, lower wishbone bushes gone soft, or even warped tyres/wheels.

So can you just look at these to find out?
Warped rotors need a dial guage to measure runout. However if the runout is large, it's possible to see it. If they do have runout, then the first check is to see if there's rust between the hub and rotor. Rust causes expansion which will induce runout of the rotor.
If both of those checks prove that rotors are running within any runout, then check for thickness variations with a micrometer. If those checks prove the rotors are the same thickness all round, then move on to the lower wishbone bushes and wheels.
When mine had a mild vibration under braking, it was the RH lower wishbone rear bush. I knew this because I'd replaced all the brake components, and it made no difference to the vibration, although the braking improved massively.

Something similar happened to me on my Freelander 2 (What is your car?) , I was told by a so called Specialist that the wish bones needed replaced at great expense and that did not solve the issue. Took it somewhere else and they replaced front rotors & brake pads and told me one of the calipers was foobar. Had it all replaced and its been fixed ever since

I am about to fit these below due to the OS Caliper not retracting as it should, i noticed this around Tuesday when i took the FL2 out for it's usual long run, steering judder at around 2000 revs in 30mph in 3rd and also in 4th, got worse when braking, pulled up at my destination and felt all the rotors drivers side was red hot to the touch, seized so plane is now to change out all Calipers, carriers and pads, i may even change the rotors too.

Hope it goes well. My fronts are getting changed soon but just disks and pads, had new rod ends in when I changed the subframe

What was your solution to this problem ?

Thank you for the wishes, it did not go to plan, every single nut or bolts was seized, so spent six hours undoing all the nut/bolts, including the brake hose ones, then the rest of the day painting the new Calipers black.

So the plan is to try the back ones this week and make sure i can undo all of those, then maybe the weekend coming i cam fit all four corners with new Calipers and hoses.

Coat of silver first on top of the coat they came with.

Then later a coat of black gloss.
