He was. It was all in the papers, at first the police thought it was murder, and were investigating other people at the skydiving club.
But the inquest decided it was misadventure, and that he had cut his own lines for more adrenaline rush.
 
I for one hated shuey when he raced agains hill - but I grew to like and admire his unquestionable dedication and skill

I remember this. Made Crimewatch and everything, I always thought it was left undefined as they had scissors etc that had the same material from teh risers on the canopy. Plus his reserve was also messed around with. But if they decided it was suicide fair enough, hardly someone wanting the adrenaline, though as as soon as he left the plane he was a dead man falling. Iirc. he also completed a 4 way formation planned skydive during his freefall.

Always seemed a bit skeptical about the final result myself.

I don't think misadventure and suicide are the same verdict. But the upshot seemed to be that he caused his own death.
IIRC, he started cutting one or two, but when he survived that, he started cutting a few more, and so on, until the fateful day.

Those guys with the wing suits are ballsy.
Can I just point out that Mulcaster asked about speed and I'm not an adrenaline junky. It is nice to have a mild rush every now and again. Also, mildly amusing when you're zipping along thinking I'd be overtaking me im my Landy right now :rolleyes: I can assure you though, for me, it's all about getting the technique right in stunning scenery.

Wasn't suggesting you were, Al. Just saying that skiing can be dangerous, and we don't want to lose your valued input. So take it easy.

TBH, not something you would get away with if you just cut a few lines, people would notice as your canopy would not fly correctly or look right even if you packed your canopy away from others and tried to hide it. One thing is people are watching canopies and freefallers all day long. There is a video of a guy in Az cutting lines on a canopy that needed to be relined...funny how it starts to collapse, but it stayed flyable for a long time.

The one I heard about had cut risers, these are the thick straps that connect the container and harness which the pilot is strapped into to the canopy lines .

No technical knowledge of sky diving at all myself. Just something I vaguely recall seeing in the papers at the time.

Cheers, mate. Didn't want people thinking I'm a reckless knacker. All this talk of throwing yourself out of planes and all that :D I suppose there is something about the speed, or maybe it's because you are in direct contact with the ground, makes it exhilarating. I spend more time picking people up and putting their skis back on than going over 50mph. I've seen a fair few impressive blow outs this week, but thankfully, no serious injuries.

It does look like fun, to be fair. Have you seen videos of the guys who get dropped off, via helicopter, on to mountain peaks and free ski down. Unbelievable! Sorry mate, bit too much hassle to post a link using my phone.:oops:

Yeah, those guys are mad, but at the same time they tend to use avalanche beacons etc. It is the muppets who do not understand what they are getting into and then cause a big problem going off piste that are the issue, or as you say the young men who thinks it is cool to go fast and not have any respect for others.

Absolutely! Those guys do know what they're doing and it must be all well organised and cost a few sheckles, hiring the helicopter. Anyway, as the well recognised t'internet search guru, I think you should post a link to a helicopter drop off vid. While you're doing that, I must go out and wander these snow lined streets looking for a recycling bin for the wine bottles, Captain Morgan's bottle, Leffe bottles and 1664 cans, that appear to have accumulated in our room. :oops::rolleyes:
 
Ok, I've braved the sub zero temps to find no video.
As I've said earlier, I'm no adrenaline junky, but this is what I've been doing this week :rolleyes:
 
The drink is kicking in now, but one of the great things about being at altitude is that your nuts swell up
