should i have a fuse from the winch to the battery ?? i think so but don't know what to get ?
when testing the winch yesterday the red got very hot at the battery

I've never fitted a fuse to a leccy winch. I do have a heavy duty isolator inside the cab within reach of the drivers seat. I also have a way of breaking the connection from the outside too. Anderson connectors are my choice of weapon for outside. They are also dead handy for jump starting other people without having to get into the seat box of a defender.

NEVER FIT AN ELECTRIC WINCH WITHOUT A WAY OF BEING ABLE TO ISOLATE IT. WINCHES CAN AND DO CARRY ON RUNNING OR START UP ON THEIR OWN IF THE SOLENOIDS GO PETE TONG.

you only need a fuse ( or other way of shutting the thing down) if you want to be sure that your landy wont burst into flames :lol:

if you cabble can carry the current then no but you need to over size your cabble but you need a way of isolateing it
