Should I buy a Disco II for towing 'van

Thank you mat - I couldn't remember who it was! Um it's a bit dark to take a photo now, but I will take one tomorrow and put it on here! I'm quite proud of myself! I know all you blokes out there will think I'm just a beep beep woman, but I bought the dog guard 2 weeks ago, and I just couldn't wait for hubby to come home from sea to fit it - I had to do it myself! :) :) I'll be changing the oil and filter next... nah, maybe not :)
 
wow - i don't think I get 29 in my manual - maybe I should try pumping them up a bit more. I also bought myself a new tyre pressure guage and compressor from halfords :)
 
Cheers for that Yella. Checked my disco handbook from LR and it states that the front tyres should be 28. What are the effects of putting the front ones upto 36 or 40? Someone mentioned it effects handling? Should I be cautious?

the harder the tyre the less running friction there is with the road, hence more mpg.
the odd psi will not make a great deal of difference to the handling because of the type of tyres that are fitted to our vehicles ie high sided walls and not low profile.
that said to much or to little will cause tread wear not to be constant across the tyre and the ride to be either sloppy or fidgity.
as we tend not to thrash these beasts about the open road obvious changes to handling are not obvious but more a "that doesnt feel right"
have a play with the pressures and see what is best.
at work our vehicles are weighed then the tyre and vehicle manufactures tell us what is best. this is often quite different from the books.
my setting of 36f and 40r is right for me.
be brave and have a play the feel on the road, cornering, steering and mpg will be the signs you look for.
 
all the above comments are very true.
but use your common sense, little point in saving an extra 1 mpg and then buying set of tyres every year or two?
every car/driver/situation is different.
check the tyre condition regular and hence find out the tyre pressures required for your style.
 
I tow a sprite super major 16 ft 21 foot long in total and weight 1100 kg .nose weight 95 kg , with a discovery 2 t d 5 all spring set up, with 18 inch wheels and bravo 71 tyres

i have 32 psi in the front and 34 psi in the rear, tyre wear perfect , have no problems towing but i also have an al ko 3005 hitch on the van
