Shocks ... should I change turrets

Hi all ..

while social isolating , thought its a good time to do a few job on the landy ..

Im going to be fitting new shocks and springs , is it worth fitting new turrets also , or if all is ok just stick the what I have ?
I have seen a few methods of changing the shocks , one means removing the turret , and the other doesn't , any advice on which is the best , easiest way, any tips ...

The shock nuts are usually rusted and won't undo same with the bottom ones.
Turrets are hard to inspect thoughly in situ especially as they rot inside where you can't see cos the damper is in the way.
If you want a nice smooth no hassle job, by new turrets and rings (with nuts) with new dampers then you can just cut everything off with a grinder/sabre saw.
 
You can't be 100% sure of what your existing turrets are like until you remove them and if you don't buy them in advance and find they are necessary you will be held up waiting for them to be delivered.
Easy to remove / refit and for the (small) increase in cost get the galvanised ones.
 
yeah , after whats been said , it makes perfect sense to swap them out at the same time while im doing the work ... I ordered new ones , and some new spring retainers for the back ..

I guess if im going to go to the effort of fitting new ( good) shocks/springs then id be daft not to swap them , my current ones look fine from what I can see but as said cant see inside .

What sort of shocks/suspension are you fitting? Lots of choices on turrets. I'd fit something of an open design, easier to clean and access the shock in the future.

And depending on your goals and supporting mods, dislocation cones, shorter or longer turrets may offer something. Else just standard height ones.

oh I ordered up some galvanised ones , with rings :) and the spring fixings for the rears , didn't see the opened ones ...

Im fitting New (take off) Land rover genuine springs with old man emu shocks , it was a toss up between them and Bilstein but I opted for the emus as I have the steering damper
 
yep, gwyn lewis track/drag link ends for me last weekend along with a heavy duty track rod to match the drag link. I like their stuff too. :)

also fitted old man emu steering damper - it was working well before I stopped driving to work recently.....

we have same set up + fitted std rate terrafirma dampers. i spent a long time looking at the various manufacturers + pro's&con's of each component + the great feedback from the LandyZone guys/girls. Kept std spring set up and polybushed with std shore rating.
 
my 110 got the heavy duty terrafirma kit which was a big mistake. it's empty most of the time and far to firm a ride. I may try the OME's next.
 
I fitted the HD steering rods , drag link and OME damper , I really like it ..

I wanted to keep the ride hight standard , I went for the land rover springs , as I just didnt think that cheapo £18 ones would last another 20 years like the originals ...
