Shocking, rear shock, shock

Funny thing but I fit shocks that are black as standard [ Armstrong] and paint them yellow, just happen to have a large tin of synthetic yellow marine enamel.

Can I ask why? Got a pair of shocks on the way (somewhere in the postal workers strike I think) and will be going onto cup type lower brackets. Oh, and which way up do the lower bushes fit - can't find any clear pics of these anywhere.

The cups contain the rubber bushes and act as the lower washer.
Immediately below the bottom of the shock is a bowl shaped washer with a 13mm hole in it pointing down, then the rubber/poly bush, then another cupped washer with a 19mm hole in it pointing up.
Then the lower shock mount (thats part of the rear axle), then another cupped washer with a 19mm hole pointing down, the bottom bush and another cupped washer pointing up - followed by the lock nut.
If you leave the cups in place you don't use the washers that are above and below the lower shock mount, just the one immediatley below the shock body and above the lock nut.

There are different types of bushes, rubber ones that are around 45mm in diameter and 20mm thick and a softish plastic (poly) bushes that are about 30mm diameter and 25mm thick.
Depends on whose shocks you have.

If you have removed the anti-roll bars and if/or you are fitting +2" (or higher) suspension, I would recommend you remove the cups.

You could probably buy some Britpart stickers to really set them off

Shocks I have bought are OEM Boge. The originals which are still on have lasted 10 years and may still be ok. Only changing them because it got an MOT advisory that the lower bushes on one side have slight play in them. I have bought a set of bushes (brand unknown) but decided to get new shocks while they are still a reasonable price, they seem to be shooting up in price lately. If the originals are still ok they will be kept as spares, along with the unbranded bushes. And thanks for the answers.
