Shock Absorbers

Hi Everyone
I've a Disco 2 TD5 since January therefore i'm not so familiar with it yet
But can anyone tell me what signs to look out for when the Shock Absorbers
are Duff,,,,
By this i mean mine has ACE & SLS, does this not confuse the drive feeling?
also if the rear shocks are Capputt, will it not strain the lifetime of the rear Air Springs + Compressor "which packed up on me last week"....etc...etc

Hi Vince, you might find you get more of a response if you state clearly what it is that your car is doing, that you don't like.

I found your post rather confusing.

Hi and thanks for the anwer.
Mine is not really a big problem as such, however what i'm trying to ask is how do you know
when the Shock Absorbers are Duff ?
If the car is slightly pointing downhill and i pull the handbrake it sways back & forth
Is this normal? or is this the Anti roll bar acting or the shocks that are down.
Looking at the the manuals the Discovery has a complex suspension system
my concern being, if the electronics SLS + ACe compensate for faulty shock absorbers also?
Hop i've made myself clear.

The Disco isn't a 'normal' car, it's a big, heavy vehicle on softish, long travel suspension, that moves about a lot more than smaller cars. Sounds like it's your first Landrover and you just need to get used to it.

The Handbrake feeling comes as you have a single Handbrake on the Propshaft rather than one on each rear wheel. This means that the slack in the drive shafts / differential has to be taken up before the handbrake works. The car can move forward one of two inches. As Paul said seems you need to get use to the feel of the Vehicle

To be honest ok normally i drive the Alfa 159 JTDM almost 80% of the time "company Car"
however the soft ride feeling you mention is a little strange, by this i mean before the Disco
i had a Frontera sport but did't sway as much as this one!

I have never found a problem with the ride of the two Land Rovers I have owned. Yes the ride is different from a car or a car based 4x4 and I know that the new models of LR Disco, RRS and RR are a different beast altogether running on "air" on all corners just take a tests dirve to find out.

If you have concerns then attend a LR club meeting, there must be a few in Italy, and discuss it with other owners, meeting them is something i know you will/should enjoy
