Shock absorber bushes

new bushes are only 20p ish may get through a test and get some new pins made up and welded on next year ,and improvement at csame time is to cut a thread and use a nut instead of split pin

Nah use the washers and pins - they're spaced to set the bush compression. The bushes are supposed to absorb the motion and they're not supposed to move on the pins so you could always glue them on.
 
I used to cut the end off the bar that the bushes go on so removing the split pin hole then drill and tap the bar and use a bolt and flat washer to hold the large flat washer on the bar, the shorter the bar the tighter the bush. cost nothing works great.
 
Normally you should need some pipe grips to compress the washer and bushes to get the split pin in. There shouldn't be any free play or looseness once the split pin is fitted.
 
Have in my box of home made tools a short length of tube with a slot in it,place over shock pin,squeze up with clamp and insert split pin.[made when I had a fussy mot man who did not like to see any free play in a bush]
 
Hello,

I am currently trying to replace the bushes on my landrover 109 since they have perished. However when I try and unsrew the knut holding the bottom to the axle, it rotates the bottom half of the shock absorber. Nothing I have tried stop that rotation and therefor I can't get that knut off. Anyone have any solutions?
