While i was out on our shoot the other weekend i was doing a bit of feeding (stop, start driving). After doing this for a while i came to start her (96, 300 tdi) and she wouldn't start i turned the key and all the usual lights came on the dash, no immobilizer light on just a single click from behind the glove box and nothing else. I tried the key a few times but the same thing just kept happening. After about 15 mins i tried again and she started with no probs. Im not to good with electrics so can anyone give me any ideas as to what the problem could be and if poss cures?

Cheers

Poor battery connections, connections to starter motor, dodgy starter motor, bad earth somewhere, dodgy ignition switch, rusty boot floor, etc, etc....

Check all of the above. With special attention to rusty boot floor. ;)
When was the last time you checked the battery??

Or just how many times do you expect a battery to start the engine with little or no time time to charge

:brick:  :frusty:

I have similar problem. When I go out for long runs with the caravan on say 100 miles I get to caravan site ,turn off engine , go in the office , get back in car and try to start ,nothing. All lights on dash.Wait for five mins ,she starts

Sounds like the immobiliser controller behind the radio.

Mine used to do exactly that, when hot or if i needed to restart just after turning the engine off. If I left it any time between 2 minutes and an hour it would restart.

LR have made an immobiliser bypass unit for about £5 to fix the problem

Thanks for the info will look into it.The first time it happened it was pretty embarrassing .I had to ask owner of site if he would tow my caravan on to my pitch. He then turned up in his Landcruiser telling me how great they are.I jumped in the Disco and decided to give it one last try and it started. He then drove off disgruntled ,muttering something derogatory about Landrovers. :D
