evening all - just a quick one as you can see my p38 runs on a set of 20" stormer alloys - during its recent MOT i observed the front wheels on the shaking plates ? since then at speeds over 50 the steering shakes excessively- below 50 no probs ! any immediate thoughts ?
cheers chris

what do mean by shaking plates?
if its a rolling road then its a bad idea if only on front wheels

not sure if they cam off an l322 or RR they are 20" and no i haven't got spigot rings fitted , how can i identify what model they came off - ebay purhase a few years ago

They have to be L322 wheels no 20" available for P38. Wheels are centred on hub. L322 have a larger hub than the P38. So you need to fit spigots to centre the wheels on the smaller P38 hubs or they will run out of true. Like these. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Spigot-Ri...100170?hash=item2a74cb324a:g:4~kAAOSw4GVYIt4R

I edited my previous post as it's what I tell the yoof as a scare tactic, the fasteners do take a proportion of the weight, but they must be centred.
Some OEM wheels have quite a small bearing surface so really just a centring aid, imo.

I edited my previous post, the fasteners do take a proportion of the weight, but they need centred

The wheel needs to be centred on the hub before the fasteners are torqued up. They should be nipped up tight before the wheel is lowered and then finally torqued up. 2002 to 2005 L322 wheel nuts do not have a location cone to locate the wheels. So unless spigots are fitted the wheel can move relative to the flange.

Absolutely, and never whack up the first fastener with an air gun, 1st just nipped, then consecutively the furthest away, in star pattern. Basic sh*t really.

Maybe check nuts for tightness (ooer:eek:), had a scenario moons ago, checked car over for MOT, adjusted rear wheel bearings, properly, test failed on rear wheel bearings, loose as a furquin loose thing, obviously tampered with. Garage didn't know me, well they did later that afternoon, intimately if you catch my drift, testers face was like a 3 bar heater after my little con fab with him.
