I wasn't sure what size to get but do you think this will do the job?

thought I might buy a 2 ton strap to go with it :D

In all seriousness though. What shackles are safe for single line recovery (not snatch) 4 ton?

Because that way ya know they've been tested and you know that you're not buying some cheap ****e Chinese ones that will strap the threads off the pin if yu get and sideways loading on them..

Makes sense

always try to avoid sideways loading

and most of the shackles that are supplied now are from china (it's true)

use American Fed spec shackles or any thing with a ce mark on 'em.

a commercial shackle is easy to spot as the pin won't be thicker than the body of the shackle.

on a lifting shackle the pin is always thicker.

Actually thats something I've never thought of. I've always thought of a shackle being used in a linear way but if it turns sideways you're relying on the threads holding it together.
Up to now I've used lifting straps which are in big loops (got given a load of them). I've been looping them around the front bumper so it pulls at each chassis leg then loop two straps together, but I need to sort some proper recovery points. I happened across someone who was really stuck the other day and it didn't do my straps much good.
I bought some flatdog straps but need some shackles now. I'll make some jate rings.

Never ever attach a strap to owt with a sharp edge on it. You'll cut the strap in half Always use a shackle or rounded recovery eye of some sort
