right folks I have the oil, filters and antifreeze and im wondering...when I change the fuel filter do I put the new one on empty as I don't want to put unfiltered fuel into the filter..if that makes sense, secondly when I have drained the oil and waited a while, when refilling..do I fill the oil filter with oil or replace it and fill slowly, and last of all do I drain the system and refill with fresh antifreeze or just top up...bearing in mind I have no idea when the disco was last serviced thanks

what make and model?

If V8i, I fill the oil filter before fitting personally (and rub some on the seal) but it probably doesnt make a huge difference in the grand scheme of things, as long as you dont start it and rag it, let it idle for a few minutes and then check the oil level.

Fuel filter, I have always filled them but have been told there is no need recently.

And antifreeze: I would empty completely and then add yourself so you know how what mixture your running (max strength 60%) winters coming. It also acts as a coolant in the summer.

Tdi: dunno havent got one.

Hope this helps.

1. when I change the fuel filter do I put the new one on empty as I don't want to put unfiltered fuel into the filter..if that makes sense,

2. secondly when I have drained the oil and waited a while, when refilling..do I fill the oil filter with oil or replace it and fill slowly,

1. It's not important either way but if you fill the fuel filter with new fresh diesel, it'll shorten the 'bleeding' process;

2. I never bother but if you fill the new filter with new oil you reduce the possibility of running the engine without sufficient oil;

3. After emptying the coolant circuit I always flush out the block and radiator with a hosepipe until the water runs clear. Then pour in 5 ltrs of pure anti-freeze and top-up with pure water until full.

Good luck
