Servicing a High Mileage Engine

My 110 had a disco 200tdi fitted 7 years ago that had about the same mileage as the 110 did, so the speedo mileage is accurate enough to work from. Fast forward 140k and it now has 260k on the clock. It is still running well and I know these engines will go on for ever when serviced regularly (every 5k). It is coming up for needing another timing belt (270k) and I am just wondering what else may need replacing/overhauling due to the mileage?

I keep toying with the idea of buying a "cheap" 200tdi and giving a full strip and rebuild to replace mine. But they are not easy to find anymore in any sort of reasonable condition especially if you want a complete engine rather than just head and block. I am also fairly attached to my engine as it is what I have learnt on and think it would be a shame to swap it out especially as there is nothing currently wrong with it.

What would would people recommend? Is it likely to need any sort of rebuild? How difficult is it to rebuild in situ? how long would it be off the road?

If it runs well, and passes emissions test, just keep servicing it, rectify any faults as they appear, and keep driving it.

No harm in getting another engine and doing it up if you want the interest of doing it, but you may never need it.

Never had any problems with it and plan on keeping it well serviced. I know these can go on forever but I did not know if it here is a high mileage service interval for crank-bearings/liners/etc the internals of the engine that are not visible.
I know the 406 diesel my dad had a very high service interval at 500k for a cylinder reline so something similar, was a couple of years ago and he did not get that high so never needed it.

Diesel engines can run a long, long time. I have worked on over 50 years old, and still going strong, never rebuilt. The engine in my Mondeo has done 282k, and runs like new.

If it ain't broke, dont fix it, and don't go looking for trouble.

Main service interval people ignore to their cost is injector service.

I like the sound of that will just continue to service as normal and keep on top of maintenance as needed.

What is the service interval for injectors and what needs doing to them? I know mine have never been done. I have fettled with the pump when the throttle spindle started leaking so have replaced the seals and bushings in the top of that. But have never done anything else with any the injector system.

Don't know on Tdi, probably about every 80k miles. On an older indirect injection engine it would be 40k. Well worth a look, faulty injector can cut a piston like a hot knife through butter.
