Hey all, got a disco 5 first edition. The 3 litre v6 model. Just turned 74k, been serviced just 2,000 miles ago with the normal oil,filters etc but wondered if there any essential maintenance that’s needs done around these miles? Like transmission fluid change or belts? My local mechanic very capable of completing work, don’t fancy taking to my landrover dealer to find out what needs done to get ripped off. So reckoned I would you guys

Most auto boxes seem to need an oil change at that mileage

I take it that your vehicle doesn’t have an up to date stamped service book. A main dealer only has the service info on the vehicles they service, theres no national data base, so if its been to various garages for a service then the service book plus an invoice is necessary for the info on the work carried out.
I found the service books I've had have a page or two showing what what is included, plus the mileage or date which ever comes first a service is due.
My experience with LRs its or was every six months and 24,000 miles for a auto box fluid change, if your LR was a “working vehicle” it would be sooner.
Wow, maybe you're the lucky one.
Many 3.0L owners aren't nearly that lucky, some having multiple engine failures.
Apparently that is the main issue, as land rover claim it is not an issue, yet the warranty companies say it is so will not cover crank failure.
At one point land rovers own 2nd hand car warranty did not cover the crank, but I believe that has changed.
Not all 3.0L engines fail, but a good number do unfortunately. My own 2.7 TDV6 in my D3 had done over 200k and was fine when I sold it.
It was originally thought to be a manufacturing error where one of the satellite factory's that PSA use (it's a Peugeot/Citroën made engine which outsource manufacturing to small local factory's) was missing out on the heat treatment of the cranks, resulting in cranks from this particular factory failing early. This was with apparently sorted out before the 3.0L was released, but now it's coming to light that the 3.0L is also breaking cranks, perhaps even more than the 2.7L was. This could be down to a number of factors, but the increased power output on a particularly fragile crank design is my reckoning on it.
The crank isn't exactly what I would call beefy, especially considering the torque these 3.0L engines are mapped to produce now.
As for prevention, I'd be making sure the oil is changed long before LR say it should, as oil change intervals are stupidly long now, which has to make a difference to the longevity of the engine.
As for warranty, use LR as they are the only people that cover crank failure as far as I know.
Thanks for the info nodge. Do LR provide extended warranty? I tried motoeasy and there appear to cover. Very dubious of all warranty/insurance companies tbh… glad I posted this thread. At least I know what could happen, I was at a cross roads with my disco, I really like it but knew there were troublesome. Was considering moving to a 2015 defender 110 county, thought the 110 would hold money better and possibly avoid any really expensive breakdowns.
