Always nice to have a bit of history with a car, even better if it's good history.
I bought my RRC just before xmas and spent an afternoon putting the last 2 years worth of recipts into a word document, the chap had kept everything in the 2 years he had it. At least I know the HG had been changed with a good one, and I think after another 18 months and 15k Km it would show up any problems by now, so well happy with that. In all after collating almost 3 pages of part numbers and dates.
Importantly regular fluid and filter purchasing.
I was told by the seller (wife's best friends husband) that he hadn't had the car long when the engine blew up (I assume the LPG killed the valves and/or piston(s) which would have been dramatic in the burning of oil, but not so much an explosion....I digress
Anyhoo, I assumed he'd had a short motor and perhaps head work done. As it happens, I went to the local go to 4x4 guy, Hamish at Inverness 4x4 who is an absolute legend.
He recognized my car, even though it had been over 6 years since he'd seen it, reason being the colour. He hasn't seen another P38 in this hue... He told me the warranty paid for a BRAND NEW engine
and his workshop fitted it. Not long after, it was overheating as somehow the A/C condenser had become blocked (the car lived on a farm) so it was removed. Not so long after that, the car was parked and left....for FIVE YEARS!!
I got it, did a heap of work on it with help from my buddy Ian Gray who runs a wee garage (as per the last stamps). George had 86k and needed 4 replacement airbags, two rear brake pipes, full engine service and everything checked & passed for MoT test. I recently replaced all 4 wheels brake pads, but not discs as they are good for another 20k.
I also fitted four new tyres for the MoT test and recently changed to the spare set of wheels and winter tyres.
Upgrades so far include LED headlamp bulbs and await LED bulbs for the (built in) front spots and fogs along with DRL's which should be here next few days or so. I also planned to have the grille & associated plastics "dipped" & laquered to make them nicer to look at, but my injury got in the way...Not long now & that'll be done too.
I am trying to keep George fairly standard looking as far as factory parts go, but an upgrade to superior internals does no harm.
