Its the first 3 years before the MOT's start that are the problem. Think about all the lease hire cars - you pay for excess mileage & many will just get the car clocked before it goes back as it can be cheaper than paying the excess. My old boss had around 30k taken off his rangie before it went back to the lease company. Very wrong but it happens.

One of our company cars had about 210k on the clock. Yet when we sold it we was still asked if they were genuine miles. Most people coming to look felt the mileage was far too high for the condition of the car. You just have to wonder who believes anyone would clock up a vehicle. It is hardly going to increase value is it?

I wouldn't worry about it if your going to be keeping your car
Checking a LR dealer service history is very simple if you are able to call the dealership and verify. A lot of independent garages do not keep records, just stamp the books. But one way to check if a car has been serviced, just look at the condition of the air filter, usually it is just a few clips, if the owner say it has been serviced, but the air filter says otherwise, take what ever he says with a pinch of salt. Also the fuel filter can be visually checked, old filters usually look tatty, compared to a shiny new one. The same for the oil filter, if it is a metal spin on, see if it still has that new shine on it, or if it looks like it has been on there for a few years! But more manufacturers are turning to the paper insert oil filters, which makes it difficult to check their condition. hope that helps some one.
