Hi everyone.
I'm new to this place and new to land rovers. I just bought a disco 2 TD5 from a dealer. As part of the deal they have promised to give it its latest (over due 72000 service) to complete the "full service history" they had it advertised with. After researching it a little I have noticed that the 72000 mile one is a biggy. (I'm not sure if the car dealer was aware of this when he agreed the deal) The dealership has its own sevice and MOT garage. This is where the work will (hopefully) be done.
I have printed out the service schedule to see what i expect them to do. However as i'm new to this and also not so well schooled with motor mechanics i'm worried they might not carry out the work properly as it will cost them more than they would like. How will i know for sure the service has been done properly? Are there easy ways to check these things?

Any help would be great. As i'm booking it in for this friday..

thanks

give them the schedule and tell them, as per the offer, this is what you expect to be done.

then do a few spot checks afterwards. engine oil colour isn't very reliable as it goes black nearly straigh away in a diesel.

may check propshaft grease nipples for signs of fresh grease, no fresh grease, it ain't been done, check air filter, can tell in an instant if it's new, likewise pollen filter if fitted, so on and so forth.

crucially, if it appears they haven't done it after you pick the vehicle up, don't push to get them to do it, rather ask for some money back in lieu of the service not carried out correctly. then you can take it to an independent who want to service it because thats what they do, not that they have to service it to sell the vehicle.

good luck.

Or get some money back in leiu of doing it yourself and know it's been done and save yourself a fortune. Obviously this doesn't give you "full service history", but if you keep the receipts that will be some sort of proof, also I suppose it depends on how long you are keeping the motor:confused:;););););)
