hi, was greenlaning my landy earlier and was attempting to get up a rather steep muddy hill. In a few places there are sum roots sicking up in the rutts. Wheels were spinning then they suddenly got grip on a tree root i think. anyway ther was a loud bang from the front and now i have no front wheel drive. The clutch has also started to go spongy and its hard to select a gear if the vehicle is stationry. is this likly to be linked? and what is likly to hav gone bang? half shaft? cheers

engage difflock and try to drive the vehicle. If it drives it's almost certain to be an half shaft. If ya unlucky it'll be front diff.

Ya could have burnt the clutch out trying to get up the hill I suppose.

wasnt any clutch burning smell but it gradually got worse on the way home. yer could drive the vehicle. quite good fun with only rear wheel drive :D

Lift up one front wheel, with others on ground, put hand break on, diff lock on, and try and turn the wheel by hand. if it goes round then its that wheel.

Also could easily be CV joint.

BTW this is usualy what low range is for so you don't have huge amount so wheel spin and clutch slipping, and the art of keeping momentum up up a hill :D

was in low range. turned out the diff had gon bang in a big way :D both planet gears were shattered and the circular casing bit inside has some serious damage to it. will post some pics later if i remember to bring it back from the workshop!
