Ok I'm convinced it's the full monty it's getting, bits for the steering should be here tomorrow from craddocks, it seems there is no protection for the rear steering arm and damper, so I will have to be more aware of hidden bits.

The tow bar is a bit of a plough and I am thinking of making a guard for the fuel tank and taking it off. Next project, unless somebody has a good reason for keeping it on.

Yeah. It makes a good plough.:p :p :p

I have left mine on on my 110 defender cos I do a lot of towing. Although it does often act as a plough it has never stopped me going anywhere I want to go.

I dont tow anything and to be honest it has'nt stopped me but it has grounded many times quite badly crossing ditches.

Perhaps the work entailed getting it off aint worth it, but I'll see how I feel after I do the sliders.

Ok the jury is still out on that one, if I get ****ed of making the sliders then I might not bother.

I think the defender is a better tool aswel.

And you're probably a better driver, more importantly, I'm the one that bent my steering remember.:)

When ploughing with the towbar I find it actually 9 times out of 10 prevents me from getting stuck.

Confused?????:D :D :D

Simple. When you plough your trench you are creating drag that can stop your landy moving forwards. When you are unable to go any further forward it will still go backwards (in most cases) because you have already removed the resistance. If you want to carry on going forwards you simply reverse a few feet and then go forwards until you stop again. Carry on repeating the process until you have made it to where you want to go. Without the plough attachment when you get bogged it is generally cos you have dug your axle housing in and taken the weight off your wheels. By thie time it is often too late.

The two main reasons for getting stuck are lack of traction due to tread and grounding out yer diffs due to drag. assuming you had the traction to get to where you got stuck while towing a plough behind you. You should still have the same traction to reverse back out with (in effect) the plough removed.:rolleyes:

Agreed. If you tackle the mud flat out, the momentum can get you through...................... it can also get you well and truly grounded.

If you tackle it at a reasonable speed, that is when the plough works bestest.

The two times I have got stuck and been unable to DRIVE myself back out it has been due to lack of traction from the tyres rather than drag. Hopefully I have now rectified this with my new insa turbos fitted.

Come on grippa . give daft his due. He is an eggspurt on the easiest methods of losing forward and rearward movement within the shortest possible distance.;)

265/75/16 Insa turbo Special tracks

I wanted 265/75/16 Insa turbo Saharas but couldn't find a set of 5 for a decent price. I could only find 235/85/16's.

I just hope I have made the right size choice. They seem to fill my arches a bit too well. I might have to fit either heavy duty front springs or a 2" lift. I may find I am floating on mud too, rather than digging in to find some traction.:rolleyes:

They do sound a bit 'fat'! Well, we'll see when your springs are rilly working hard & you're on full lock wun't we!

I've got the Saharas in 235/85 & I rilly noticed the differunce furst time out. They seemed to just climb up anything, by which I mean even the sidewalls up out of ruts!
