Series3 temp sender and running temp

Hi guys can anyone tell me where I can get a new temp sender from mine is a small button type one held in by a bracket and 3 small bolts on the top of the head near the thermostat.
My problem is the gauge is showing hot all the time I have had new rad and pump and thermostat
What temp should the engine be?
Does the bottom hose on the rad get hot like the top hose?
How can I tell if the water is going round the engine?

Take rad cap off slowly when engine warm you should be able to see water coming in from top hose.
Is that sender by the thermostat not the one for the choke?
Have a look at right rear of block at back of rocker cover from memory.
Wire should be Green blue.

the "temp sensor" that you are looking at is the "otter switch" not a temp sensor for the guage, the otter switch operates in conjunction with a switch mounted on the choke cable to tell you to push the choke back in once running temp has been reached

the guage sensor screws in and if your head/thermostat housing doesn't have one then your engine/head is from a different period of build to the main vehicle

my '65 109 has no guage

Thank you for your replays I have tried to attach photos the otter switch I thought was the temp sender has that green and black wire on it and when I take it off the gauge does go down to zero so I am stumped because I can not find the temp sender there is a bolt where it screws in on my other ones on the left of the thermostat

Any ideas what is the temp it should run at normally?

well if i remember correctly your thermostat should open at 82degrees, so it would suggest somewhere above 82

if i was fitting a thermostatically controlled electric fan i'd be setting it to cut in at 90-95degrees

you can buy an adaptor to fit in the top hose to screw a temp sensor in

temperature sensor adaptor | eBay

a quick ebay search throws these up

We had the same experience with our series 3, 2.25lt petrol, two years ago

... Found a blanking bolt in the head the same as yours. We fitted an adaptor bolt part no...568457 and washer part no... 231577 into the head. Then we put in the temp gauge sender unit part no... 560794. It has been fine ever since (fingers crossed)

! Hope this helps.

Additional info... If engine numbers are 36123572B to 36407285B then the adaptor number will be ...ERC8973 washer will be... AFU1890.
