It would appear that the years of laning my series has resulted in me breaking my steering wheel 
does anyone have one kicking around in a shed? I had two spare but sold them thinking i'd never need a spare
It's currently a nice mountey smallish wheel (will go and measure it in a bit for sizing) and would quite like a similar one to replace it with.
