Series hot start difficulty

I am about to pick up a Series 2a, petrol, recently bought unseen due to distance(I know, dont do this unless you are mad!). The owner has bee nquite honest and says it is difficult to start when hot. He uses the starting handle and gets it going. not sure if this indicates a lazy starter motor or if this is a fuel vaporisation/carb problem. Anyone have experience of this and have suggestions??

The joy of buying unseen ..............change the coil out first, seems most likely cause due to age of the vehicle before trying anything else.Welcome to the world of running a Series vehicles.

i don't think so. its more likey carb related. if it starts fine when cold that would point towards the electrics being ok.
I can't think of any circumstances where a faulty coil would cause difficult hot starting while allowing easy cold starting, same applies to the starter.

anyway its never a good idea to start swapping bit about until to have the vehicle and checked what is working and what int.

having sed that, if its bin sat fer ages you want to ensure that ign circuit, points,condensor,cap and rotorarm, etc are in good order. once you have that sorted you can then start to look at the fuel side of it

I would go with slob, check for carb flooding, useful when you want to cold start, instant wet plugs when hot

standard carb or doe sit have an aftermarket replacvement of some description? could be running too rich, choke sticking on / badly adjusted.

Get it home, strip the carb, make sure you park on a hill if yo uneed to stop on the way home, Most motorrway services have banks round the car parks, park on one of them so you can bump it if you need to. You collecting it on your own or going with a fellow 4x4 friend?

If you are going with a friend, take a straight bar in case you get bored of the starter handle. Does sound like flooding of some description though, the starter would turn the engine faster and just exacerbate the problem.
