Hi after fitting a disc hand brake but with a hydraulic lock for when being left overnight, the question is will the front out-put flange fit instead of the large hand brake one any suggestion would be great before i start pulling gearboxes apart for no reason.

Hi Andy Welcome

not quite sure here, sounds like you have replaced the transmission drum brake with a disc for a better handbrake

the front output flange connects front prop to front diff , not sure what you want to do with this

The defender Disc from X-eng has a bigger usable surface due it only holding the hand brake drum on the prop bolts the series one has an extra ring of bolts which make the usable area smaller

Part of the reason is using a car rear caliper I can use the hydraulic side as a brake lock for extra security when leaving the Landy

Hi sounds like I needed to be clearer I am going to fit the front out put flange in the rear of the transfer box instead of the one with the mount for the hand brake drum and then I can use the disc for the later coil sprung Land Rovers which mounts the hand brake drum on the same bolts as the prop shaft which is why I am trying to find out if the front out put flange will fit or even one from an early coil sprung transfer box.

I think what you're trying to do is new territory.....when you've done it you can explain it to us with loads of photos and say whether or not it works.

Am I missing something or is this: link what you are looking for which already exists as an off the shelf conversion? Although I would also echo that the only advantage of a disc setup is the lack of maintaince needed. They are no better when fully functioning.

Seems funny replacing a drum handbrake with a disc. One thing disc brakes aren't good for is parking brakes, which is why a lot of modern cars have a hybrid (mini drum inside the disc), for the handbrake. I am curious why this upgrade is needed,

Don’t let the MOT man see the hydrolic handbrake..... I’m sure this is sure this is a big no no.

(you can put a clutch lock in line so they can only crash box)

Not sure if they are interchangeable I think the seals are different. You could just turn off the flange that would have secured the drum to the rear output flange, you still need to make sure that the thickness of the disc doesn't cause you sliding joint in the prop to bottom out. I assume you will use the mechanical system for the normal handbrake and the hydraulics for a security lock.
