Replacing the old 2.5 diesel in my Series Land Rover (nearly 200k on the clock) with a very good 300TDi.
Am removing the turbo. Am advised that this engine is very good in a series without it.
Any idea what exhaust manifold s needed.
Have been told that a series manifold will fit.
Any advice very much appreciated.

The 300 is a good engine but why remove the turbo if you have a good one ? i currently have a series 200di and its painfully slow

If you realy want to remove it you can blank off the turbo flange with a flat plate and use a 300 downpipe and im fairly sure you can use manifolds from other LR non turbo diesels ,im sure someone that has done it will know

It's an easier conversion with the turbo removed on some vehicles and gives a nice range of power for a Series without popping halfshafts everytime you get a bit keen on the go pedal, or worse, killing gearboxes that have been around a bunch of decades.

I've had a couple Di's and they were happy at 60 with O/D........bloody noisy though.
 
It is easier and cheaper as you can use the original rad and dont need to find a place for an oil cooler or intercooler and you can sell the turbo and possibly manifold

Your choice realy but if your careful theres no reason you should go through half shafts or gearboxes

I should of said my di is painfully slow compared to a modern car but its a step up from a 50 year old 2.25 diesel !
 
Had a 200di in my series 7 years now...bags of power compared to the old 2.25d...even with 3.5 diffs....and 35mpg plus.
A very n keeping mod for a classic and very basic vehicle.

I used the manifold off my old 2.25d...and 2.5 petrol mounts...dont forget to that the oil stat out of the oil cool system if they have one in the 300...

Dont think the 300 is as easy to fit as a 200 from what I know...I have a manifold off a 2.5d NA as a spare.

Why are people always down on turbos doing high mileage? My MK3 Mondeo 2.2TDCi has done 278000 miles on the original turbo, injectors though don't get me started on those fecking things!
 
Just fitted a 300tdi in my 2a I used the manifolds and turbo off a 19j engine slight drop in power over a standard 300tdi . Using these manifolds also sorts the problem of exhaust down pipe and engine mount so down pipe now runs near bulkhead o/s engine mount need to be fabricated as original one can't be used

Im not at the stage of fitting the exhaust yet ,does the standard manifold / exhaust foul the standard LH engine mount ?
