Series Electronic Distributor, how easy to install?

Fitted the new coil and distributor today, only problem now being cant get it to fire at all:confused:

coming from the distributor theres 2 wires a red one and a black one,,, this then clips into the wiring supplied(making it longer so it can reach the coil) so making the wires 1 red and 1 green.

Im assuming the red goes to + and the green goes to - on the coil(although the green wire has a female spade terminal and the terminal on the coil also has a female spade terminal) anyway I got round that as I had a spare connector to go in between in two in my tool box.

Theres also a wire that I removed off the old coil that comes from behind the bulk head(white in colour) from the igniton which I have connected to + also ( as this is where it was removed from on old coil)

Can anyone on here just confirm for me all the above is correct and that I arnt going crazy:doh:

Any comments suggestions on what to do next are much much appreciated:)

Just an update to what I posted earlier:

Ive confirmed with simonbbc the company I bought this set up from and the wiring as above is correct. Ive had a mate round myn today so perfect opportunity to make sure everything was working ok with it.

Disconnected lead from coil to top of distributor and got him to hold against block, strong spark so all working correct

Tested each plug and lead by removing and getting him to hold against block, again all fine with a strong blue spark from each.

So that rules the new electronic distributor and coil been at fault,,, still the engine doesnt even attempt to fire. Am I right in thinking this is a timing issue?Checked fuel supply and everything appears fine there.

The series is a 1973 model so I assumed the timing pointer would be on the flywheel housing but instead the timing marks are on the timing cover with a notch on the crankshaft pulley. Am I right in thinking this is a later engine rather than the original fitted?

To confuse me even more,Looking at the timing pointer on the timing cover there is 4 teeth(maybe 5 cant remember now) rather than three. Im sure I read somewhere on the net that is to do with the vehicle been fitted with an emmision control system or something like that so cant be timed acuratley using the static timing method applied to vehicles with no emmision control system?- is this correct?

Any advice is greatly appreciated in what I do next... thanks for taking time to read this:)

I've just fitted mine with the same result...Not happy at all! My first parcel never arrived and now this one doesn't appear to work either! That said the dizzy is in a different position with regard to the pinch bolt when compared to the one that came out.

Are you getting a spark through yours though mate?

I've secured the services of a timing strobe light for tomorrow evening!
I'll let you know how it goes!

Yeh keep me posted mate,,, im gonna be having another play around with myn tommorrow and hopefully get somewhere (not holding my breath mind:))

Been trying to get myn sorted all day today,,, actually thought I was getting somewhere at one point as had it running but pretty rough,,, engine vibrating alot and didnt sound 100%. Unfortunatley from there on it seemed to all go wrong and Im back at square one:confused:

Ive played around with it that much I dont even no where to start now. Is there a "Idiots Guide" to timing anywhere on the net , would come in very handy at this moment in time:)

If anyone would be kind enough to help me out on what to do next Id be more than greatfull.
