I have just noticed that the braided earth from battery is corroded and splitting , however it is still connected.
I will try and create a temporary earth with jumper cables to see if this makes any difference, ill update you.

Checked all this and its ok , also bypassed starter solenoid and it tried to fire again and wouldn't , fan tried to spin , going to collect coil now I'll give that a try , and then I'm out of ideas

Check you've not earthed the points by putting the points spring the wrong side of the white insulator. I've done that and it simply shorts the whole circuit.

Just had a thought , mechanic was playing with idle screw turning it in quite a bit , maybe initial problem has been resolved and the idle has been turned in so much that it wont turn over and wont jump when 2nd battery used, Ill
have a look in the morning , clutching at straws now but if hes turned it in too far it might not turn over.

im confused now are you saying the engine doesn't turn over at all incidentally the idle screw and carb settings wont cause that if this is the case no amount of coil changing points changing or any other fiddling will help if it is turning over and at a reasonable speed then go straight back to basics you need fuel a spark and compression in the correct order its a really basic simple engine I have gone to some that have been non running for 25+ years and had them running sweet within an hour

Jock , this is the issue I have , I turn they key , it trys to turn over , fan trys to turn and rotates 360 degrees but nothing happens (technically it is turning over I suppose) , coil , points , condenser change, dizzy head changed no difference , plugs out , cleaned , back in , no difference , all plugs out on the block spark up , fuel line disconnected and the fuel is flowing into carb ,oil clean I have fuel and I have spark but the 2 aren't getting along ! I've also bridged the gap between starter solenoid and again fan turns once but stops

Is it turning over nice and fast on the starter? Don't worry what the fan is up to. Take two plugs out, pour some petrol straight down the carb and try to start it - with or without choke, it'll spin faster and possibly run on two - give it a go - good luck

Now I'm confused. I read the above to be that the engine only turns over once then stops. Does the engine turn over freely with a spanner and could it just be that the starter isn't man enough. Try using a jump lead to Earth the starter direct to battery then see if it turns better.

(Apologies if I've misunderstood your description)

Just have this nagging feeling that your problems are still connected to the previous thread
Poor compression!!
It will never start with poor compression no suction for the Atomized fuel to enter the combustion chambers!! No compression no combustion etc etc

What exactly do you mean when you say it tries to turnover? Is the starter motor turning at speed. If it's wheezing away you could have a worn out starter motor.

Post a video of how it is or isn't turning over so we can see exactly what's up.

If it's I my just turning the engine over 1 revolution when you turn the key the. Either the starter motor is duff or it isnt getting enough power or something is binding inside the engine

remove the spark plugs turn it over if it spins fast and free make sure you have the correct firing order from the dizzy cap to the plugs go right back to basics as I said earlier fuel compression and spark in the right order if the thing is still slow to turn over with plugs out thereby removing the compression element then try jumping from another battery if still slow check earth to starter and finally the starter itself all this presuming of course that the engine isn't part seized also worth checking that you haven't completely over filled the oil to the point of hydraulic lock what happened before all this started did you just come out 1 day and couldn't start it or was there knocking from the engine etc

Argh. We've got to get a result on this one. It must be solvable. I've run oot of ideas apart from schlepping to a good Landy garage.

why dont you fill in your location neil ,someone may be nearby, its gonna be something simple if it was running ok 2 weeks ago

id double triple check ht leads are in order,or carb/jet blockage if youve got fuel pumping

Morning, I'm based in bournville in Birmingham , all was good until one morning when it wouldn't start , really hoping engine isn't seized ! Im already nearly bankrupt from using public transport for 2 weeks !
