Afternoon all.

Just tried to follow the green book and cannot seem to get the wiper motor removed. I can only get the wheel box drive cable so far then will not pull out any further? I’ve removed the union nut but can only pull the drive cable out so far. Wipers have been removed.

All ideas welcome 🙏

Not done mine before but looks like the cable stays where it is after you remove nut numbered 5
If you want drive cable out you need up to do the following actions

Apologies was thinking you wanted the outer sleeving so I think you’re right it should pull out , I would be tempted to turn on wipers a few secs while pulling
It looks like the square end fits to motor so if it was pulled out from motor might be able to unscrew it by hand as the spiral but like a thread

You have to remove the tin back plate [several small bolts] to release the spiral cable. Release wiper motor from bulkhead and rotate it for access.

Thanks. Do you mean on the motor itself remove the back plate? Was trying to remove the wheelbox drive cable attached to the motor as per the green book. Perhaps will try the alternative. Only want to overhaul the motor 😕. Nothing is ever as easy as the green book suggests 😂

You have to turn the whole motor unit around 180 degrees to be able to open the back plate on the wiper unit itself. Then you can lift the spiral cable fitting [ square bit with hole] off its spindle on the drive arm and take the motor unit away.

Ah ok great pointer. I’ll give that a go today! Thanks as always for your help

So I managed to separate the motor from the wheel drive cable…. Opened it all up and now realise why there was a terrible noise everyone I used the motor. Looks like one of the magnets had come away and has slowly been burning out the armature. Also a few of the insulating tabs (?) had broken off between the windings. Although could get a new armature thought best to simply order a new motor and retain the old for parts in the future. Wallet is now £65 lighter this afternoon!

Thanks for everyone’s help so far

Looks a well gone motor. Tip. When new one arrives it will likely be set up for LHD vehicles. A bit in the back needs to be turned 180 degrees so that wipers parc in the correct place for RHD. Can not remember exactly what without looking in one, been a while. Someone here may explain.
