Hey guys bought my 1979 series 3 swb 2 1/4 litre petrol last weekend and I am trying to get it back on the road, it came with a lovely set of old bfgoodrich tires on it but I cannot for the life of me find out what size they are, could any of you enlighten me?

Depends if it's got the original wheels or not. 6.00x16 was the original fitment but 7.50x16 was an option and a common mod. I think thats about 205x16 in modern.

mine had 205r16's on it when I got it, they look naff and piddly imho :D

so I upgraded them to 7.50 r 16's with the g90 tread, much better look to the s3 now

keep wondering if 10.5's would fit too, trouble if I see pics of landies on here which have tyres I like its almost as if one has swam into the shallow end of the gene pool when I enquire about them, you tend to get assinine comments like "they are round rubbery ones"

haven't a baldy I am afraid, i'm sure you are right though they were pretty big & wide wheels c.f a landy, the one I have now has a modern tire size.

Does anyone know if its possible to fit 195 80 16 tyres onto Lwb rims and what effect this will have on the gearing of a Swb s3 petrol. Im on my 7th series 3 and have tried alsorts of tyres and wheel combo's from tall 235 85 16's ( great in snow ) to some 205 70 15 inchers. Im thinking that a tall and thin tyre should be great in snow and give me decent mpg. I dont use the landy for anything more than getting to work in the snow, i live in west yorkshire and have managed to get out in all weathers with any tyre.
