When I got mine, I used to get the odd crunch changing down but it was just a matter of timing. I was used to modern boxes. Getting the road speed matched with engine speed and then changing slowly made all the difference. Good luck with your 90 and remember there is as much fun in fixing them as there is in driving them, or at least, that's what I keep telling myself.

Col, I was thinking that it might be about matching engine speed (takes me back to my MG Midget), plan to have a play on the way back and see if it changes better with a 48 year old at the wheel as appose to a 22 year old (christ, I sound like my Dad!). It's funny you should mention the fun factor, I am really looking forward to getting my tools out and getting it nice and solid i.e. electrics........................bolt the passenger seat down....................steering box (and so it starts).

Changing gear is a two stage process, out of one gear and into neutral, then into the next gear, rather than straight from gear to gear.

So got the beast, it is a discovery 200tdi and box, doubling the clutch makes no difference and it only happens from third to second (also I am now in totally the wrong forum so apologies)
