Series 3 seatbelts: where are yours?

Looking to install a pair of inertia seatbelts on my 88’ hard top. Where have you put yours? It would be great to see photos of the possible solutions.

I have a soft top but other than the top mounting which which in a hard top should be much easier they should be the same if you go down the same route. I do not know about yours but my series 3 had static belts fitted which I then replaced with inertia belts. I used the same mounting points as the static belts for the plug, and the lower mount to the seat box. The top mount I have a soft top seat belt bat fitted to take care of this but in a hard top you would need the upper belt mount (part no: 395586 + 395587). To fit the actual inertia reel itself I again used the original static mount on the bulkhead with a piece of 10mm angle iron bolted to it to re-orientate the seat-belt to be vertical rather than horizontal. The only thing with this is is the seat belt sits at an angle rather than straight, I made sure when I purchased the seat-belts that there were suitable to be run at an angle as not all are. With your hard top however you also have the ability to mount the inertia reel directly below the top mount on the tub side using the roof mounting in this position. I will try and get some pic of my set up later today but this is the hard top mounting position n I am referring to (pic form google:

I used these brackets/hoops when I wanted to take the roof off during the summer last year - the top belt mount was bolted through the side of the hardtop with strengthening washers each side of the ali skin. Was OK I guess but thinking about it the ali could maybe have torn or bent under big force as its not that thick. The ad says they are for the soft-top only but all it takes is a little notch cut in the bottom edge of the hardtop where it sits on top of the tub and the roof still goes on with these in place. They are very sturdy and the galvanised finish sits well with the Series look. The actual inertia reel sits on a bracket mounted across the corner of the bulkhead and tub, then the upper belt mount simply bolts onto these. I'll try and get a photo shortly.

Pics of the install of the hoops/mounts mentioned above - hope that helps to show how they fit. Obviously this is probably overkill if you are never going to take the roof off - this way though I can elect to unbolt the roof and still have the belts working and strongly mounted. Think they do a black powder coating finish as well. Needed probably just two extra holes drilled on the tub cappings to take the brackets, otherwise fitted onto the existing holes that were there.

That’s a non standard solution. Hard top fixings are on the bulkhead between the doors and the window. The safety belt bracket is then on the tub capping outside and not the rear bulkhead.

Yup, totally non standard - like I said I wanted something that would work with roof on or off so was just putting it in as a possible solution for the OP depending on what he wants to do When it came to me the top fitting was through the actual hardtop skin and the reels were fitted closer to the corner of the bulkhead/tub join so wasn't standard either and was a bit flimsy to be honest. I liked these as they strengthened the whole thing up as well. Cheers.Ian

This is my fitment, I made strengthening plates with 2mm steel, they are now boxed in and I'm back to standard LR seats.

Basically the same as mine although as mentioned above mine are mounted at and angle and I purchased seatbelts that had adjustment to allow for being mounted at an angle.

Thanks guys for sharing. I’m still not 100% decided on a solution; waiting for my blacksmith friend to get back from his hols and I’ll probably see if he can make some brackets for me
