if i may be so bold as to butt in here with a quick question if ive got 11" drums on the axles on me 88 series 3 does this mean theyve been taken off a 109 and are sailsbury ???:confused::confused::confused:

Not exactly

I believe maybe wrongly that very late series III 88s had 11 inch brakes fitted.

look at your rear diff does it look like Ryders pic I.e does it have a pan that unbolts from the back of the vehicle or is the pan and axle case one welded unit and the diff unbolts from the flange side.

This will determin weather you have a rover diff or a Salisbury. Some snatch and NI lrs had a Salisbury front axle as well.

Also what year is your motor might give more clues

Not necessarily - 109 brakes on an 88 is a common upgrade and will fit rover axles. See descriptions of salisbury/rover diffs above.

right so mine are rover axles with what appear to be early rangie diffs due to the welded on filler holes and im sure the old rover diffs are cast iron not alloy

cheers lads :D:D:D

early rrc diffs were used as 3.54 diff replacements for series 4.7 as they had filler plug in diff housing as only late series 3s had filler in axle diff pan, using defender, disco or later rrc diffs required filler to be added to pan
