Hi,

I've been meaning to join this forum for a long time - glad to be here.

I've rebuilt the gearbox on my series 3, however when I turn the primary pinion slowly I can feel a very slight sticking point. I've tried different spacers on the layshaft but they make it worse. All the gear teeth seem fine and there's no obvious problems.

I just wondered if this is normal/ acceptable.

Thanks in advance for any help anyone is willing to offer.

Hello and welcome. Giving a rough idea of where you are is nice.
Can not see why adjusting the lay shaft would help, all it needs is to have a tad of end float [ the book method of setting up is rather basic.]
See steamwally series 3 gearbox video's on you tube.
Just put mine back together and it turns smooth. I did need a new input shaft bearing as it was rough. When turning by hand try and keep straight as the other end is not supported by flywheel spigot bearing at this point.
What parts replaced? Have you tried it in all gears including reverse. More detail helps.

Steam Wally's guide is great!

I've put it all back together, tightened the layshaft bolt and the bolts for the bellhousing. It's only really slightly there - like a slight vibration through the primary pinion it's present in all gears.

I replaced the layshaft as the previous had some teeth missing and weirdly, the end was crooked. put all new bearings in across the board.

Ah yes could be. Do you think it's worth me replacing the syncro again?
The only thing I'd add is that the distance piece on the end of the layshaft does seem to impact the severity of the notch. Not sure if that sways your thoughts at all.
