That's how I've done it before.

So the team assembled for another day of working. With it raining hard we were grateful for the unit of just rented on the orchard where I live and at £10 a month I couldn't turn it down.

I'd started to take the clutch pedal and MS assembly out on Friday night and and we managed to get one union undone and removed the lot. All cleaned and put back in, Ash our team grease monkey quickly changed the slave and bled the system. Whilst he did that me and Paul changed all the cooling system hoses, not at all easy to access!

So we started her up and found first gear (best if you don't have the H&L range selector in neutral). We gently tried to roll her forward but something wasn't right. She didn't really want to move, it all felt a but tight. A quick check of the diff oil levels showed they we topped up and jacking her up, the front wheels were very tight. Still she had sat for anything between 20 and 7 years, we're not quite sure.

Proper happy that it's been relatively straight forward up until now. I've never driven a LR before and I've never driven anything without power steering, unless you count the time I knocked the power steering pump off of a work vivaro van in London in rush hour. It's certainly a driving experience! And I could do with it this winter. This brook runs through my garden and yesterday had about 7" of water in, today it's about 3.5' and still rising, I wrote a KA off in feb being a bit to brave with some standing water :-/



Next job is to have the wheels off and see what the brakes are like, should we be watching out for asbestos? After that we'll move on to the welding and fitting of all essential MoT parts.

Nice truck, by the way thoses spring hangers arent the right ones, you need the thicker ones with a twin height.

They were in the back when I bought it. Where can I get the right ones?

I wish! That was the easy bit. Now got to make her look pretty!

LOL well done all the little steps add up!

I wouldnt worry about asbestos with the brakes too much just take them off and bin them. I would recommend replacing the at least the brake shoes and check teh calipers are not shot. My calipers looked ok until put under some pressure when they started to leak and for the cost of a brake rebuild kit you everything to make them like new

Haven't done much this weekend but did get the chance to give her a good wash down and get years Lichen off of the roof.



She scrubs up pretty well. Probably won't get much done in December so will have to sit here and twiddle my thumbs until that blasted Christmas is out of the way.

Looks in pretty good shape A good wash always makes you feel better!

What a cold, long December it's been. We didn't do anything all month so tomorrow we start on the last (hopefully) mechanical job.

Will be refurbing brakes all round as all Dot 4 has leaked out of driver front wheel.

Then a case of moving on to rear crossmember and 2 front outriggers and cosmetics. Aiming to have it MOT'd buy march as I'm planning a trip away to a friends farm in Sussex

Well, we got the back done. Unions completely seized on the from drums and pipe is badly corroded so a bit of pipework next weekend.

Gave all the drums a good clean and respray.

Sadly discovered a lot more welding needs doing than we first thought. Going to hold us up by a few weeks

Well I went out today to test drive a couple of cars that are options for my new company car. Got back to a land rover that didn't want to play.

Needed to take up the floor to get access to the gear selector and also to make it easier to weld the outriggers.

What a bastard job! 3 hours later and finally able to have a good look at what needs a clean up





37 years of ****e there. Some of it is about 1/2 inch thick. I can't WAIT for tomorrow. Got so engrossed that I forgot about getting my hair cut.

It's been all go over the last 3 weeks and we have fully refurbed the brakes. I managed to get hold of some new lights from my local land rover breaker and wired them up. The low beams are pretty rubbish still even with modern bulbs





Next job will be to take up the rear floor so we can crack on with prepping the chassis for welding. Here's the front bulkhead outriggers





The rear crossmember and front of rear suspension outriggers ain't much better. In fact the crossmember at the bag is almost non existent.



Am I being to optimistic hoping to have it through the mot by 19th of march?

that's nearly 7 weeks, plenty of time
