Hi, what would a series 2a 88" rag top fully restored taxed and tested be worth in your opinion? Many thanks in advance.

Hard to say really without pics and more details of the extent of the restoration. I would say it could be anywhere between £2500 and £10k from ones I've seen.

Ok i see your point, i havent got any photo's but its all been welded, had a proper respray, the seats recovered, new rag top and seats have been recovered, new carb, leads, alternator, brake shoes, brake pipes, new stainless exhaust, new outriggers, im really not sure what to put it up for sale for. It really is a very nice example of a 2a.

If the chassis has been repaired well and painted / rust proofed well and the bulkhead & footwells are 100%. Engine and gearbox excellent then I would say about £6000 - £6500.
It's all about finding the right buyer. Some would not pay more than £3k but there are some who will pay a lot more - particularly those who are not good with spanners and hammers in my opinion.

A reasonable way of finding the value of something (in this case your series 2) is to go on ebay, search for vehicles just like yours and see what comes up. Then go down the left hand column of the page and click on 'completed listings' this will then show you what things are actually selling for and therefore giving you a value.
In the real world with 12 months MOT and tax a refurbished 2a might reach £3000 with good pics and a good write up.

I'm not convinced that those looking for a really nice example would bid on eBay. I wouldn't! There are a few individuals out there who want a nice old series Landy with all the work done. They do not intend in doing anything to it themselves and will be garage maintained. They are probably be unlikely to be on forums. These are he people that John BRown Landrovers and The Land Rover Centre in Huddersfield thrive on. I was at Dunsfold LR a few weeks back and they charge over £30k for a nut and bolt rebuild. It all depends on the quality of your refurb work and if you don't mind waiting a few weeks to sell.

The likes of most of us on here wouldn't dream of paying lots for an old Landy and of course, we want to do the work ourselves - all part of the fun. :)

I agree I don't think ebay would be the place to sell it for what its really worth, perhaps in land rover owner international may be a good idea. 4x4's and cars seem to fetch very little on ebay from what i've seen.

we really do need pictures

we need to know how original it is (is it a bitsa, wrong engine/right engine, correct gearbox or not??)

we need to know what year it is

there's welded/repaired chassis and then there's ones that have been welded and repaired correctly and the same with bulkheads

correct seats, etcetera etcetera

different folks have different expectations/ideas of fully restored

without being rude a nicely rebuilt 2a has a starting value on the insurance of 2-2.5k, one that has all original components (rivet counter correct) can easily double that as a starting valuation if it is straight and smart

the final valuation though in your case will be down to a haggle between yourself and any prospective purchaser, your knowledge and his knowledge of your vehicle
