I don’t know if any one can help me but I’m having a small problem with the breaks on my series 2a.
I have just changed over the break master cylinder as it was letting by . But I now have a problem where,
when the breaks are applied to stop my series I have a strong pedal, but if for any reason I have to come off it then go back on with in a few seconds I don’t have any resistance on the pedal at all, but the next time I come to use the breaks further up the road it’s ok .
I have a remote servo fitted with the vacuum coming off the inlet manifold. If I sit stationary with the engine running at ideal I don’t have this problem occur, I can pump the breaks as may times as I like and still have a hard pedal, its only when I moving. Has any one had the same problem or can any one help me please

thank you

Curiouse!
Only thing I can think of that would fit the symptoms described is if the shoes are binding;
ie;as long as the wheels aren't turning then pumping th epedal they do as they aughta. When you are moving though, movement between drum and show pulls the shoe into the drum (on the leading edge); then if you back off the brakes, piston is pulled back into the cylinder, but the shoe doesn't come with it, becouse the 'drag' from the drum is stronger than the return spring.
When you stop, load is taken off the shoe and it 'pops' back; if you were not to re-apply the brakes after slowing down a little, you might not notice; and it would pop when you next camne to a halt, or when it decided to.
But, I'm speculating; be interesting to pull a drum off and checkl whats going on in there; look for adjustment, both on clerance and alignment; look for weak or snapped shoe springs, or springs threaded through the wrong holes (They're a bugger to get on, and easy to put the spring in the wrong hole and get it on easier!) look for anything corroded or siezed in the mechanism, and estreme wear on the leading edge of leading shoe.
Put it back together and see if setting and adjusting sorts it out; if not, then I dont know, sorry.

well i had the same problem as you iwould suggest that you realign the shoes as they may be binding or if not try replacing the wheel single cylinders?

have you tried bleeding it???
u will get there!!

Thank you both for the advice.
I tried to bleed the breaks but found one of the bleed nipples on the back was broken off, so I have now ordered two new wheel cylinders to replace the back end breaking system. I also just put it through an Mot knowing it would fail but to see if any other work needed doing to her before I fully got her back on the road.
As expected it failed on a few points the breaking being one of them brake pedal being spongy , the rear flex brake hose being excessively damaged and the other, missing bushes on the rear springs resulting in excessive movement.
So the fault could be due to air in the system as advised or / and the flex brake hose being damage. When I have the drums off I will check every thing is free and in the correct position.
Once again thank you for the help it has been very handy.
