series 2a 200tdi won't start

Hi new to this forum but hopefully someone can help.
One of my landys ( the one I use most ) it's a late series 2a with a 200 tdi conversation

Had no problems recently but went out to it Wednesday and turned the key but nothing.

All other electrics work on the vehicle but the starter won't engage.

Iv checked all connections but everything seems fine

Any help would be appreciated
 
In need of some more urgent help

Driving home today and my 200tdi started review on red line
I lifted my foot up and it kept reving
Disconnected all fuses kept reving
Disconnected the throttle cable kept reving
Disconnected the battery and eventually it stopped.


It's dump all its oil put the back of the exhaust.

I picked it up on a trailer but I'm after any ideas of what has happened.
The only reason I can think of is that the fuel pump got stuck open .

I must add I run it on bio desiel
 
It is running a turbo yes.
But what I can't work out what caused it to rev constantly. Fuel pump stuck open ? Turbo ?
I wanted to work out what caused it before I attempt to fix it or replace it
 
Basically your turbo oils seals failed meaning that your oil pump was pumping oil straight into the inlet, diesel is basically a lighter oil and Diesel engines will run quite happily on engine oil.

So is what happens is oil seals fail causing oil to get into the inlet which manifests itself as extra 'fuel' basically making the car rev higher, this pumps more oil into the system causing even higher uncontrollable revving. The only way to stop it it is to physically block the air inlet at the turbo, force a stall by putting it in gear and bringing the clutch up while stomping the brakes or in your case, I am sad to say, internal engine failure - usually overheating and seizing.

It's engine rebuild or new engine time sorry dude
 
It kind of depends on what let go first and yes it might be possible to get it running again without masses of work but a runaway puts a huge amount of strain on the whole engine and a full rebuild is the only real answer imo
 
it's unclear. did it stop itself? did you stop it before all the oil was gone? how long did it redline for? did it overheat? how much oil was left?

I know someone selling a 300 tdi that I know the history of.
I assume I could fit that as a direct replacement for my 200tdi right ?

You could fit it but it won't be a direct swap. The engine mounts on the chassis will need changing I think

yup, and probably pipework, hoses and exhaust downpipe. doable but not a straight swap. i'd look at fixing the 200 first
