Hi Folks,

Just been let down this morning with the local garge fitting my tow bar saying the one the factory have made up will not fit my Series 2. No reason why but I cant get there to see if for another 7 hours.

I am guessing they maybe made it for a Series 1 model??

Mine is a 2001 Series 2 by the way. Do they have different location points for the tow bars or are they universal between the two models?

I know the panels are all different between the two models, but what about chassis and location points underneath?

I see heaps of breakers selling Tow Bars from Series 1 Discos but dont want to buy one and have it turn up and not be able to fit it.

Thats my weekend screwed now, but all is not lost for next week!

Cheers for now

series 2 disco has a longer boot and rear overhang than disco 1...

Does this relate to the chassis too??? I dont know, but if it does, the relation between the chassis mounting points and the crossmember mount may well be different???

Good point yes. I had forgotten about the longer boot. But if the chassis is extended it will still fit. My guess is that they kept the same mount points but just extended the body panels.

Any gurus able to answer?

I will PM fredbloggs and ask also. Thanks.

Cheers for now

Also I assume that even though mine is a Series 2, its still classed as a Discovery 1?

So that would make it a Mk1 Discovery Series 2?
Or is it the same as a Discovery 2 but without the fancy lights. Making it a Mk1 Discovery 2?

Oh my head!!!

This will make my searches for the right bar easier.

Cheers

what engine? If it's a TD5 = Series 2
in the uk the fancy lights were a D2 'Facelift' model

Mmm, not keen on that idea to save a few quid to be honest! I would worry about the welds breaking or being caught on something. Dont want to see my BDA go bouncing down the road behind me! A good idea all the same, but would not pass a warrant here.

Did not realise getting a tow bar would be so tricky!

Cheers...

Its a 2001 V8 gas guzzler. I was a bit worried my Carbon Footprint was too small...! ;)

It has a badge on the back that says "Series 2" and is obviously the later model with the higher rear lamps and different panels, etc...

But I see some sites listing then as a Discovery 1...??

I got a heavy duty bar made up in the end, good for 3500kg. Had two lugs fitted for security chain and also shackels if required. Also went for a bit of bling and had the tongue chromed for good measure!

Used in anger at the weekend to tow my offroader up to the forrests for some fun in the mud. Worked a treat!

Cheers for the pointers all.
