Seized Clutch...well I think thats it

Collecting my 4th series tomorrow (there will be a sale on soon!) its only 7 miles from home but its going on a trailer!

Anyway...clutch is seized. Engine starts well (first time even though it had stood for 2 years) but I can't get any of the gears (apart from reverse) was driving fine when it was parked up. From experience with other vehicles I am guessing the clucth may have seized onto the flywheel.

Any special techniques for sorting this out on Series Land Rovers, I need to get it sorted fairly quickly as I'd like to drive it up the lane when I get it home!

(If I tow it I will block my good land rover in and if I straight bar it it will probably plough up the gravel like the last one did!)

spray lots of WD40 through the bellhousing drain hole and wedge the clutch pedal down with a block of wood for a couple of days

or tow it in gear repeatedly banging the clutch pedal down

Run the engine so that it all gets nice and hot , jack up rear axle , put into 3rd gear high. make sure plenty of room in front, no one in way etc , sit in cab with clutch depressed and get assistant to lower trolley jack fast,
There is some chance of halfshaft damage but ive used this method before without problems

i,ve used this method before with no worries.
put your transfer box into neutral,select ya self a gear,fire her up with ya foot on the clutch,then crash your transfer box into gear the sudden lurch usually frees ya clutch up.

Thanks guys a combination of the above worked well....I wasn't brave enough to crash the transfer box, but I did get it started in gear, drove it along the road matched the revs to change gear and banged the clutch down a lot and it freed itself, was a bumpy road....

Brakes on it worked ok, I nearly drove it home (only 10 miles) but just my luck and all that, think its got red in it as well so that would be double trouble!

Just as a alternative method that I have used before and its much kinder on your Landy is:-
1. Jack up both rear wheels (Two wheel drive only)
2. start landy in 4th and let her warm up for 10mins
3. with the clutch peddle pressed and your assistant leaning in holding the throttle down to around 50mph.
4. stamp on the break
5. if it stalls start it and repeat.

There may be a bang as the plate frees off.
