Yes! I agree. The silly little nut that retains the arm rounded too, so I had to bugger it up with a Dremel and chisel it off.

Got the arm off, cleaned the bore with sandpaper and WD40, then reassembled with copper grease. I have the luxury of a parts car so no waiting around for bits, and there's something to practise on.

Did you have to drop the engine to get the arm out thanks for your reply

No, I don't remember having to do that. It was a long time ago... I was changing the alternator so had it removed anyway. You may get away without doing all of the following, so play it by ear and only remove something if it's in your way. I would try without removing the engine mount and alternator first.

Aha. In that case, pop a jack and block under the engine and remove the hydramount. Doesn't take very long and then you'll be able to lift everything up and remove the arm, unless you're happy the arm isn't seized now.

Originally the bolt snapped that holds the pulley on so bought another tensioner in the mean time waiting for the part to arrive I took a air hammer to get it moving emery clothed the shaft and loads of grease then used the bolt and pulley from the new tensioner as the bolt is left hand thread all back together now and no squeak also done the belts u

Oops, sorry LDTd4 ;) It's hard to pitch advice/comments when you don't know the background of the OP.

I did the job 2 or 3 years ago, which was meant to be just an alternator rebuild and refit, but turned into SO much more. Thus I can't remember exactly how I got to the tensioner - it was all just a blur... And don't get me started on replacing the thermostat...
