Yer have to remember at this time of year the tratter owners dispise Freelander's and their owners even more. The cold damp weather makes them extend their normal routine of scraping condensation or ice oft the inside of the windscreen. Having to then drive it with no heat thereafter must be pain full knowing they bought the wrong vehicle.

That's something that I don't need to do, as the heated front screen takes care of that. Then the heated seats and hot heater make the Freelander an pleasant place to sit, when is cold and wet outside.

This is something that the tratterer definitely doesn't get to enjoy at this time of year. :D

Not in mine - none of them.

For a 1/4 of the year at least I'm getting a card out of my wallet to scrape the windows before a journey first thing, then again at the end of the road when they've frozen up again and sometimes for a 3rd time.

Often have to scrape the insides to, as the contents of the fish tank condenses on the windows then freezes.

After about a mile there's usually enough heat coming out to keep the windscreen clear enough to safely see out of (if I crouch down), and after about 3 miles I can actually start to feel some of that heat to.

A Tratterer probably starts to get heat radiating through before I get any heat coming out of my vents.

If I make sure the coolant is at about the correct level, it does warm up a little bit quicker.

Really should permanently wire some of those Freelander hair dryers up and point them at the windows!
 
Why not retrofit the winter goodies? ;)
If I was to start changing things - the very first thing would be getting the windows to still work after the engine's been turned off - that is a right bugger on early Freelanders.

Of all the winter bits - the heated front screen would be the most (very) appealing. However, I bet I couldn't even source one here, and if I did it would be collosally expensive. That's before putting in the necessary wiring for it. I'm always trawling the classifieds for Freelanders for sale here. One of the first things I do when a new one is listed is look at a pic of the console - and you can virtually guarantee they are going to have a "blank" where the heated front screen button is. I was amazed when this one was listed the other day. Not only is it the 3 door, which are quite unusual here, but its got the heated screen and its a pre facelift.

It's amazing how many tratterers pick ont Freelander's. At this time of year it takes their mind oft the daily trip in their drafty damp biscuit tins. Never before has a vehicle been so good yer have to make so many modification to make it bearable.

Agreed! Was driving to work at 05:30 the other day forgetting there was a load of wet stuff in the back of the Hippo. I was surprised when the windows started fogging up
but the A/C and Recirc air made short work of it. I'm always leery of turning on the heated screen from my old days of driving MGs with minimal amps coming from the generator!
(The heated seats make me feel like I've pi**ed myself:oops: so I hardly ever use them!)

Had to do quite a bit of work on my Freelander to get it back to spec, very frustrating at times and it was well cursed, but when that heated seat cuts in on a frosty morning, all is forgiven. Heated windscreen next if I can find one.

There's more than enough power from the Freelander alternator (around 110 Amps), so the heated front screen is well worth using. Besides it takes just a minute to clear the screen, so doesn't affect the battery one bit. Mine has failed in a patch right in front of the driver, so I'm hoping that a large stone will hit it soon.
