Security - How Do You Stop Your Disco Being Nicked

OK heres the scenario. As most of you may know I have just spent several months working hard getting the Hornet back on the road. So what can be considered several hundred hours and a few grand later I drove to the woods today to take the dog for a walk and as soon as I locked the car up,mi wondered about security.

Let's face it, the GreenHornet stands out a tad as the bonnet is now the height of the average car roof and with the wheels and suspension she is worth some toe rag having it away. So how do you stop this from happening?

Firstly I have an alarm fitted and it works the central locking but is that enough? I have a marine grade battery isolator switch which I would like to fit but am unsure where this should go. I know it goes on the negative side but there is no separate wire for the alarm so I need that to be kept fed with elastic trickery.

My thoughts are to have the switch directly between the earth feed to the engine but keep the earth to the body intact.mthis way the starter shouldn't work, even if they bridge from underneath yet the alarm and interior clock etc will.

What are your thoughts and has anyone done something similar?

One great one is fit a steering wheel that is quick release... also have sumit that stops the feed to the injector pump . at the end of the day , if they want it , they will have it, by whatever means.....:mad:
 
Fit the switch but then fit a 10A fused link across the switch...

Vehicle is powered until the scrotes try and start er up and then bang - dead as a dead thing!
 
A bridging wire is a good idea and one that I have considered too. Would the isolator be on the earth and therefore can the fuse be on the earth side?
 
Tbh ian all needs doing is snap steering lock, bonnet up put jumper wire to fuel solenoid, push it down the road and off you go.

No lights or anything but do you think they care?

Two lads strolled into our work the other day, jumped in a car and ****ed off in the middle of the day. Great.

So, IMO the best protection at home is physically blocking it in to put off the planned crime and keeping it out if sight to prevent opportunists.

As for leaving it anywhere? Just don't. I **** myself when I have to take it to tesco the night before a laning trip in case its not there when I come out.

I don't bother with security, it always goes wrong when it gets damp and I sure as hell don't want that either.

I should probably fit a secret switch or similar but tbh I try to prevent the situation arising in the first place.

A welded pedal box is supposed to be the most secure way to secure a defender, disco would be the same. 'clutch claw' or similar...

Electronic alarms are not a favourite as it adds complications were there we're originally none. I got my old girl for her basic nature, adding in a tracker etc goes against the grain.

I think an isolator switch that cuts everything, **** the alarm hey my horns are so quiet they wouldn't wake a baby, and then something around the pedals like you say. Finally a quick release steering wheels sounds good. All simple yet equally more physically effective than an expensive alarm.
 
Chain it down by the chassis to eyelets attached to an RSJ which is sunk and concreted into the driveway. Bit extreme though probably. Or paint it bright pink, no one with self respect would nick it and if they did they'd be spotted everywhere. Or use a cloaking device similar to the one mentioned in the urban legend that is the Philadelphia experiment. Don't try it with you in it though, you may well become fused with the vehicle (see Wikipedia for full 'facts' of the experiment). I'm full of other useless ideas too.
 
I take the King HT lead off and put it in my pocket. And/or just slightly lift but leave in place one of the spades off the ignoition coil, usually the Little ****ers arent clever enough to figure out why it wont start. And failing that there is always this lol: AUTO TASER UK Untouchable Car Security ;) You would have to source a second hand one now though I think. But like already said if someone wants it enough, it'll be gone.

EDIT: DOH just realised your a TDI not a V8 so not sure how yours works but you get the idea -when in doubt "loosen" something/remove something simple (relay/starter fuse) or something from under the bonnet that you can easily take with you. anything that will make the car not work but wont affect its security.

Ultimately if all goes wrong I have an old delorean in the garage. I think the flux capacitor still functions so once I have put some garbage into Mr Fusion, I can then go back and kick the little ****s arse who stole the car. However I have 4 flat tyres on it, but then again "roads, who needs roads?"
 
There were 3 in a line at my local meet once. No powder in them though...
Come to think of it there was one very happy looking springer spaniel wandering around that kept licking it's nose.

oh yes, my point - stick a big dog in the boot. If the big teeth don't scare twockers off them the big **** it'll invariably do will.

Cult car indeed. Did you (boring fact alert) that they manufactured enough parts to make 36,000 cars but only 9,000 were ever made. An American company bought the rest of the parts and the moulds and patterns so they are the only company in the world who can still make DeLoreans. In fact you can buy a new one of them in boxes, great eh.

Personally,mas this is the Landy forum, I would like a proper TombRaider Landy. Along with Angelina spread out on the back seat, or bonnet I'm not at all fussy :D:D
 
Security is a priority of mine after theiving scum have stole from my dads fender which is parked next to mine. So I put a alarm/immobiliser on, tucked the main wiring up high to avoid water and in the most awkward place going. Then added a tilt sensor for the wheels, a shock sensor that came with the alarm then a dual zone proximity sensor.

As my disco lives in a field where nobody should be I set the interior zone of the prox sensor to reach outside the vehicle. So should anything come within a meter of it the alarm goes off. Meaning you can't even touch the wheels, snorkel or light bars before the alarm sounds. Oh I put a battery back up siren in too incase my battery was somehow disconnected the alarm would sound.

As for parking it in public places, I try not to but on the rare occasion I do I can remotely deactivate just the prox sensor so it won't go off if someone walks by. But all the other sensors, including the doors an shock sensor are still armed. Maybe overkill but man I love security!!
