I am thinking of fitting a telescopic ground anchor into my drive and would like to use a 19mm diameter link chain (a beast of a chain). It needs a clearance of 75mm minimum diameter to fit through so I need a telescopic ground anchor to suit. The chain will then go around the axle.

I’m just worried about hiab’s picking it up off the drive. I think they will have a job to drive it away with the existing security I’ve got.

Can anyone suggest anything suitable?
 
I've got a driveway telescopic post which I welded arms to the base before encasing it in concrete because I could see that a strong vertical pull could get it out the ground so consider that as well.
Ref your chain- mine would lend itself to having a big hole cut right through it and a steel sleeve welded in to take the chain?
It would still retract cleanly then.

Cheers Flossie. I see what you’re saying but my parking post is already installed in the driveway so would be impossible to try and machine a hole through it (it’s a round post). I think a 75mm+ hole would probably weaken it too much anyway.
 
What about fitting some metal goal posts yer park it under to stop it being lifted.
 
After the break in at my garage I would forget chain. Go for something that cant be frozen and shattered with one tap of a hammer. I think thats how they severed the 30mm x 10mm plate steel hinges on the doors. Not a mark on it and broken like a biscuit.
 
You defender owners make me laugh, buying a tratter then chaining it to your drive :eek: what happens when you drive it somewhere and have to leave it on a public car park? Is that why tratter owners always park next to each other? I never used to lock mine as 99% of them can be opened with a spoon :p you'll spend oodles of cash on bolt on tat to impress others tratter owners but do little to improve its security or fit a tracker
 
There are all sports of things you can chain it to when you're out and about. Lamp posts, railings, bike racks. An acquaintance chained his around the base of a parking ticket machine in a car park for example.

If the standard Y Anchors won't accommodate the chain, it shouldn't be too difficult to fabricate one if you have access to a welder, with whatever size of box section you want.
