My battery looks like it's a shade too big and doesn't quite fit into the tray. (hangs just over the edge at the front)It's so heavy though, it isn't going to go anywhere (big 2.25 soot chucker battery and could act as a back up for National Grid!)

How have you secured your battery? I'm thinking maybe ratchet strap or similar? Seemed to have got through it's last mot ok with no fixing but I think this is an area the new mot looks at. Would a ratchet strap be ok for mot regs?

I assume the original oem arrangement had some kind of metal clamp?

Yes original has a strip of angle held by diagonal hooked bolts. Mine has a strap with one of those one way pull clip thingys.....you know the sort, you have to press the spring loaded bit on the clasp to release

Its definitely part of the MOT - you just got lucky!

I've knocked together a clamp using a length of single channel unistrut and threaded bar. Mines under the passenger seat but if its in normal place you could use 2 pieces of unistrut and threaded bars as a 'clamp'...unistrut is galv anyway.

I replaced the baler twine with a ratchet strap some years ago and it seems to work OK. You used to be able to get the battery clamps as a standard universal Lucas part but they looked easy enough to fabricate.

dogsbody used to have loads of straps and kept offering them on here... I had loads off him for holding batteries in place and similar - not sure if he still gets them, think last time i spoke to him they were changing the way his stock was packaged so it didn't have straps... but could be worth a PM?
