4.0 p38 running great start first time after about 3 seconds....

Changed spark plugs, oil/filter, gearbox oil flushed coolant out

Now it takes about 6-7 seconds to start now, smelt like it was flooded with petrol after it fires up!

What's causing this as it was running and starting great before I did all that to it!?

If I had a blocked/partially blocked fuel filter would this give these symptoms? Say if I was to run out of fuel and drag some crap up??

They should be fine. Does it misfire when its running ? Tickover any lower?

No once it's started it runs great, just whilst starting...

Would a partially blocked fuel filter cause this? It ran out of petrol (but kept running on LPG till I got to the petrol staion)

I don't think its fuel. Blocked is blocked. I would run it for a couple of days and go from there. Steve

Ok fella will do.

Only on other thing I can think I when I was changing the plugs they were in nice and tight (not too tight) but when it put the new ones in they didn't seem to 'nip' up tight.... They deffo not cross threaded but not as tight as the originals?

There are compression washers on the plugs but often feel soft when tightening up. Once they're compressed they feel "normal".

Just come home from work.....

It started up fine, drove for about half a mile, got to some traffic lights and it slowly died and cut out!?

Started up near enough straight away, drove to next set of lights abouts 300 meters down the road then nearly died again.

Just about to completly cut out again I put me foot on the throttle to keep it going and it steadily came back to life??

Whats going on here?? :(

Don't know about petrol as I have a diesel RR, but has a similar problem on a car a few years ago. Would cut out after a while. Stop & wait & it would be OK again for a short while. Turned out to be air vent hole in the fuel filler cap was blocked & causing a vacuum in the tank that would not allow sufficient fuel to be pumped out.

Sounds like lack of fuel pressure. Don't spose you leaned on the fuse box when you changed the plugs. They're very problematical at a certain age and I'm wondering whether you have a bad connection/burnt relay. Just remember not to get sidetracked if it really was 100% before the work you did on it.

I may have leaned on the fuse box at some point (getting to the plugs) Plus i may have spilt a bit of water/coolant on it when flushing the rad...

As mentioned above with the blocked breather hole for the fuel, when i went to put petrol in last night (After it had ran out) i unscrewed the fuel filler cap and a big suction sound came from the cap as i opened it (More than usual)

Today iv been all round the engine checking for any lose wires that i may have knocked out of place whilst doing the service.

Iv checked the CPS sensor and its all snug and hasnt been disturbed at all.

Fuse box as it should (No burnt smell) fuses all good.

I tightened the spark plugs up so they were tightened up properly (Id not tightened the crimp washers down enough)

I can hear the fuel pump making its noise when ignition switched on.

Started it up, would normally fire straight up but its still taking about 4-5 seconds to fire up then running lumpy (No back fire) and slow idle and if i let it it would cut out!

Got ****ed off and took it for a thrash! Runs sweet when im driving it...

Come to ticking over again and same storey!:confused::mad:
