So, I have recently bought a 1969 series 2a, one of the past/previous owners have fitted high back seats, I still have not taken the covers off to see what model vehicle they were purchased from.

I am considering buying new standard seats from a certain site, am I mad to go standard, are the three standard seats better than two high back seats?

I know there are different types of series seats available but do any of you fine Ladies and Gentle Men have ideas of which is best?

I personally have 3 standard up front, whoever goes in the middle pretty much needs to be an intimate partner, due to gear changes, but I only use that seat when there's no other option to transport me and 2 mates legally.

I'm 18 and in been such an age I find the standard seats ok, I did drive to yorkshire from stoke on trent, and it was bareable but I would've predpfered something more comfy!
I'd say that if they are comfy, and nothing wrong with whatever ones are in there, leave it alone!

Ps mine is a s3 with the deluxe seats, I think 2a's had less comfy seats as they were literally 2 bits of foam wrapped in vynil

my s1 has standard seats they are fine for short journeys wouldn't want to go far in them.

my s3 has defender/90 seats put in by a previous owner, much more comfortable.

They could be Metro seats although after lifting a corner of the seat cover they look like XS style seats, I just discovered they have a piece of 2x1 under each seat at the back of them and are only bolted down at the front.

I would realy like to convert back to original three seats, series three or Defender seats would be fine as they bolt in safely at the front and back of the seat dont they?, are the Defender seats the ones advertised as Delux seats on a Land Rover spares website?

I'm not sure about "safely" as the cushions are just chucked in and no head rests. However in defence of the originals it's a lot easier to remove the squabs to get at the tool chest/battery under the passenger side or to get at the top of the fuel tank and to fill the transfer case. Also being able to flip down the backrests makes for a handy place to store all your **** like vests, breaker bar, starting handle, packets of baccy and half eaten pies behind the seats.

I got a set of "deluxe" backs and bases from Paddocks (Britpart) and I find them comfy enough. They are certainly comfier than the old tired originals. I see Exmoor trim do them for about the same price and theirs are probably even better.

I do 8 hour drives in it now and again when travelling abroad and don't get too much back-ache or arse ache - better than other cars if anything. A bit stiff in the knees but that's more down to not being able to stretch your legs. Fitting bigger seats sometime makes that situation worse.

Thanks for the links Ben, I do like the 6 piece set and my seats look like the Defender seats but an older version.

If I am traveling alone and have to brake hard what stops the cusions flying into the footwell?

I have simple little L shape brackets to stop the squabs moving forward. They do not hinder the ease of removal.

That sounds like a good idea.

Sorry for all the questions but how do you adjust for leg length and rear seat rake?
I am only 5'8" and have to have my seat slightly forwards and leaning back a little

The base is on a slider that move back and forth...until it seizes up! The back can be adjusted by jamming stuff behind it, it just leans on the bulkhead....

I'm a short-arse and can reach the pedals easy enough with it fully back...I though 5'8" was about the maximum comfortable height for a landy
