AS you may of not be aware of the timing belt on the 110 snapped at the weekend which forced me to take the series to south wales and back. Whereas this was not a problem an she made the journey with no problems at series speeds it was about 3 hours each way. This has lead me to wonder if there seat available which is more comfortable than the church pew offering I currently have.
Currently I have britpart deluxe seats fitted which I like the look of and are, I assume, correct for the vehicle. On the drivers seat one of the seams has split so this either needs repairing or replacing anyway. I am not looking for seat conversions or anything like that I want another deluxe seat base to replace it with.
Now I have seen Exmoor offer these but if they are just the same as all of the others on the market using very hard foam I will buy on price rather than brand. Does anyone have any experience with any deluxe seats which are soft and "comfortable"?

The point of a church pew, especially 3 hours on a church pew in a freezing draft, is to enble the faithful show the depth of their allegiance.

The depth of my allegiance should be well and truly proven by now! have owned two of them for more than 10 years, both older than me, have extensively rebuilt both of them at vast and unjustifiable expense, the first of which was purchased when I was 18 in the September after someone foolishly gave me the first installment of my student loan and a large student overdraft. A deathtrap of a 110 from a blind MOT tester was far more important than rent or food!
As such I believe I should be entitled to some comfy seats by now :p:p

This all a bit subjective. "Soft and comfortable " likely to result in back pain if you're sitting for hours but depends on people's physical condition. Personally I prefer a stiff cushion and support same as our Santa Fe but my wife complains about that and she's a physiotherapist! You're best solution is a bespoke seat to suit your preference. There's specialist car upholstery peps but that'd cost.

I don't think landrover ever imagined anyone would be sat in and driving a series for 3 hours. The longest I've spent in mine was about 2 hours and then it broke down. It wasn't the seat I found uncomfortable, it was the position of my right ankle on the accelerator peddle, it was agony, in fact, I was grateful when it broke down. I think I got my replacement delux seat bases from Bearmark ( is that what's it's called) but they were britpart. Ignore the wife, in my experience, wives and physiotherapists have two things in common, they love telling you what you should be doing, and, they are frequently wrong.

I think it is subjective and not as clear as it looks. One of my day jobs (so called portfolio carreer....) is doing ergonomic assessments. The Series seats are very 1950s in design and have more in common with rail and bus seats (designed for long journeys) and (suprisingly) pilot seats. They have low backs and an upright back and are intended to keep the user awake and alert I think the assumption was that most Land Rover drivers would be working, they are also designed to get in an out of easily for people working the land. I'm suprised by how well they work. Because there is liitle side support you can move about to stop cramp. I also drive a 90's 500 SL with very luxurious high backed seats, all electic adjustment and loads of support. Recently did a 3 hour drive in the SL and much to my surprise suffered far more the next day than after drving the series. (I do drive the series up to 3 hours but not often) The series leaves me worn out but thats more the noise, effort of keeping it in a straight line and concentyration needed to keep a decent braking distance but I think the seats have a lot going for them despite looking "wrong" to modern eyes.

From some of the points raised above I should clarify, I am looking for "soft and comfortable" levels similar to the standard defender seats found in my 110, so as far as many people are concerned still uncomfortable! I however, have no complaints about them whatsoever and have quite happily driven solidly for some very long distance, 20 hours and 1000 miles being my record for one go. I do not want to fit later seats, I am just looking for a series seat base made from a similar grade foam to the defender seat bases rather than my current one which for all intents and purposes might as well be a concrete block!
Maybe exmoore might be the way to go, as I could at least talk to them about it and they should be able to have a reasonable conversation back rather than the parts department of some of the other suppliers.

Ok, got it. I agree and I've gone and bought some high density foam (about 3/4") with a plan to put it under the series seat cushion to stop it bottoming out (pardon pun). My aim is to have a more progressive cushion than the std one. I got it at the local upholstery market stall.

Shame they didn't continue with the sprung seats that Series 1s had. I have the Exmoor Trim Deluxe type. Comfy enough for an hour's journey but they are quite firm unless you have an arse like zebedee!

Hmm that sounds like the same issue I have currently with the britpart versions. Fine enough for pottering around the villages on a weekend, but too firm for a long distance drive. Maybe I just need to invest in a cushion to go over the top.

Drove to Marrakesh in a 2a along time ago, couldn’t,t do it now without an inflatable donut:(
Wouldn't fancy doing that in the series. Have done that a couple of times in the 110 which has standard seats. Quite happy with their comfort levels for long journeys, where as the series does not need to do that sort of distance I would like to be able to drive it for a couple for hours without struggling. .

Is the answer not simple, borrow the seats out of the 110!

In my opinion the standard 90/110 seats are comfortable enough (I have done a 7 hour drive with no real discomfort) they look enough like the series seats to not look out of place. Then source a pair of 90/110 seats in time for the 110 being fixed or return the seat to its rightful place and continue using the old seats back in the series.

As my box of parts arrived today I am hoping the 110 will back up and running before the weekend. But I was hoping for a more long term solution as the seat base needs replacing anyway and I want to keep series seats as the vehicle is original.

Edit: before an one who has seen it complains about it not being original, everything not original is very temporary (e.g. Maltese grill, HD wheels) and I still have the originals in the garage.
