Seat height Disco 4 vs Range Rover.

I am looking at buying a Discovery 4, and was wondering what the passenger seat height is, when in LOWEST suspension height (access mode). I ask this as my wife has mobility problems, and we are undecided between a Discovery 4 or full fat L322/ L405 Range Rover. It will be the lower seat height of the two that we will be buying. Therefore , i would appreciate especially anybody that has had both cars for there experience. Thanks. Mick.

I own a D3 and may i ask how tall is ur beloved plse, I would imagine the D4 is the same

Hope it’s not rude asking what kind of mobility issues does ur wife have, can easily measure the seat height in access mode for u

Electric seats have the best adjustment

Hi gstuart,
my wife is 5 foot 4 approx.
She has greatly reduced strength in left hand side, both arm and leg, due to having a brain tumour, which has similar affects as having a stroke.
Therefore she cant just STEP-IN to a car like we do, as she cant put weight on left leg, and step in right leg first.
She gets in a car by entering BUM-FIRST, sitting on the seat sideways, then I swing her legs around.
Therefore, we are now looking to change our 64 reg Galaxy, for either a Discovery 4 or an L322 Range Rover, depending on which will be the easiest for her to get in.

Have you considered a RAITAR , see link below. Or small foldable steps that can be put behind seat or in boot?

We have looked at RAITAR, but the issue is, she cant put weight on Left leg, then STEP-IN to car with Right leg first, like you normally do.

Hi

Firstly , Sorry to hear about ur beloved

I’m 5 10 and in access mode and with the seat down can just slide onto the seat

Because she has mobility issues would a freelander 2 be a better option , as by the sounds of it a FFRR and disco will be too high if she can’t use a step

just thinking about it, u can get the suspension recalibrated to drop the rangie or disco lower , but think it’s just by an extra 50mm

I was meaning ratair for stability, whilst reversing in, as I've seen it put on left side of door. Which would mean right hand on, as she sits down and swings legs in
Just as an aside, I don't 'step in' to any small vehicle. I'd hit my knee off the dash/steering wheel, my eyes would constantly be black and blue, and life would just be complicated. I sit on the seat and swing legs in, reverse for getting out. In the manner of a lady entering and exiting a vehicle ;)


Addit: what about side steps, so she is closer to the seat. Or as suggested earlier, foldable steps.

Got to take you to task on this one I'm afraid. Just because someone has mobility issues, should not limit their dreams. If they want a larger LR/RR then it should be about , how can that become a reality. Not 'oh forget that, lower your expectations and go for a smaller , not what you want, vehicle instead".
There are many on here, who have not lowered their expectations just because of physical issues ;)

Apologises it came across like that and wasnt my intention , it was just a passing thought if the op hadn’t considered it

Of course knowone should think they have to compromise because of having a disability if they have there heart set on something

It goes without question I would never wish for any of my replies to come across like that , but having the ops wife good intentions first and foremost
 
i would say you would be better to ge down to a dealer and have a try - things like bolster bars on the seats could have a big impact
